I just heard that Vegas has the Lions at number five for Super Bowl odds and Hutch at number one for DPOY odds.

If you ask me, if Hutch has a season like he started to have last season, that is a DPOY season and this is a Super Bowl team.

The offensive line is the question mark for me. I don't think we will be the top three unit we were the last two years. Can we still be top ten?

Glasgow at center makes the most sense to me. Ratledge can they take over center next year. I believe that's how they worked in Ragnow.

I agree. You need the experience at center if the center is going to call out coverages (as is almost always the case). Let Ratledge start next to the veteran and learn how the position is played, then take over in 2026.

Doesn't seem like a Campbell guy, but sure would be intriguing.

You almost never hear about stuff like voiding a contract for failure to rehab.

Maybe it’s what happened, but it feels super difficult to prove. I’ll be interested to see the result of the grievance.

The story I read on NFL.com was unclear but it seems like the team wanted him to have a second surgery after his first surgery didn't fix things, and he has been seeking other opinions. I wonder if they think his foot is shot and are using "failure to rehab" as a pretext to claw back some guaranteed money.

Injured players are Brad Holmes guys for sure because they come cheaper than the market rate. If the guy can still play football and the character lines up with us organizationally, I could see Brad picking up the phone on him. The Raiders as an organization under the Davis ownership haven't exactly been beacons of high moral character and a passion for winning football themselves. I'd bet we would at least look into Wilkins give our current situation at DT with no Levi and no Alim.

I saw this from some Raiders beat guys that had apparently been reporting this for a few weeks now.

I do think “a fundamental difference of opinion related to treatment course” is a very different story than “failure to rehab” — one is a story of bodily autonomy and the other paints a story of laziness.

If it is indeed the former, and Wilkins is a guy who doesn’t think he’s injured and wants to play right now, I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him in on a one-year small money deal. Let him prove the world wrong. I don’t think that’s against the Brady Holmes philosophy either. IIRC, Wilkins is a really good guy in the locker room, at least from his days with the Dolphins.

I tend to agree... but I'm also gonna defer to people much smarter than I when it comes to football and the OL. If the staff things Ratledge can cut it and do it better than Glasgow, then obviously go for it. Still it seems like it's be easier on Ratledge to not have to learn the NFL AND learn a new position in the same year.

I'm with you.  It makes logical sense, but if they think Ratledge can cut it, especially with Goff's help at the line, then I trust them.  I trust them to do what is best for the overall line.

Obviously, it's going to depend on the foot. If the Lions' docs look at it and conclude that he's healthy to play now, then I'd definitely say go for it. To be totally cold and analytical about it: If this is a situation where the Raiders are saying: "We're concerned that if you don't get the second surgery you'll re-injure the foot and be out for an even longer period of time." Well, that's not so much an issue for the Lions if they sign him to a one-year "prove it" deal. For the Lions they need short term help until Alim is back. If Wilkins plays for 6-8 games, re-injures the foot and out for the season... well, that's about the time that I'd expect Alim to be thinking of coming back, as well as some time for Tyleik to learn the NFL and possibly be ready to step up to a bigger role.

Now, putting a little humanity back on: I'd hate to the Lions to go into a situation like this with the idea that they could "use up" Wilkins and then just spit him out. I would want my team to look out for the player first. But the reality is that the Lions are in a position where it'd be great for some short term help at DT without major concerns if the help only lasts 1/2 a season.

I agree with everything you posted, but when I first read this my immediate thought was "why would it matter whether it's his right or left foot??"

Because you always want to get off on the right foot.

“We took a long time to make our decision,” Carroll said. “We watched our way through the whole thing. We’re keeping it really clear with what we said. I think there was no clear path to his return, so we just had to move on.”

His comments largely echoed the statement issued by the Las Vegas organization on Thursday. The Raiders didn’t mince worse with an unusually strongly-worded statement, saying that Wilkins failed to provide a “clear path or plan for future return to play.”

Wilkins was injured in Week 5 last season and had some sort of setback in his recovery that took him out of offseason practices and landed him on the physically unable to perform list shortly before training camp opened Wednesday.

PUP, nobody knows when he can play.
