It continues to go up at a ridiculous pace. It has gone up nearly $100M in just the 5 years after Covid. The league just signed a massive new deal with ESPN that will drive it up even more. The cap in 2020 was $198 million and today it is $279 million. That is an increase of 40%. Joey Bosa was the highest paid pass rusher at $27 million. Today the going rate is about $40 million, a 48% increase. Bosa was 13%of the cap and $40 million would only be 14%, but we are talking about two top pass rushers. 28% of the cap to two players at the same position. That’s just not sustainable and you’ll lose players at other positions plus your draft picks. Plus, Parsons isn’t even a great fit. 1 Quote

If Jamo goes off like many expect this year, he's gonna make more than ASB. The same reason they can't afford a second top-5 edge applies to WR, IMO, and of all the guys you mentioned above, Jamo is the most expendable. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if LaPorta or Gibbs don't get extended, either. Obviously, circumstances like injuries can change things, but there's only so much finagling of the cap you can do, even with it constantly expanding, because salaries expand along with the cap. I don't see Jamo as expendable. He, along with Gibbs, has the most unique skillset on the entire Lions roster. If he indeed has improved his route running like the early returns in Training Camp indicate he has, he's going to be almost unstoppable. I don't think the cap is as tough to navigate as you think it is, these big contracts are on different timelines so as the new deals to the new wave of Jamo, Branch, Gibbs, LaPorta etc. kick in, the older contracts of Goff, Sewell, Kerby and ASRB will take up a lesser percentage of cap plus money can be pushed to later years etc. If Brad makes a splash move bringing in a guy from outside the organization, then the Lions will have to part with a core member or two but, as of now, I don't see why they have to dump Jamo because of supposed cap restraints. The X Factor is Teslaa who I'm a big fan of but it's a big leap to think that he can replace what Jamo can bring but if IF he becomes like a Puca lite type then that gives the Lions options but, again, that's quite a stretch to expect that from him next season when the Jamo decision needs to be made Edited 12 hours ago by NYLion Quote

I don’t necessarily disagree, and I think that’s in part why they’ll be able to probably re-sign most of that 2023 draft class despite having four picks in the first two rounds. At the same time, the Saints are a poster child for what happens when you ignore the cap completely. And it’s not like salary demands are staying stagnant while the cap increases. Quote
