We had a tour of Fenway on a night game day last year.  I think we went around noon?  Maybe a little earlier.  Anywho, when we were leaving, they were using the street along 1B as parking for the player’s’ vehicles.

We had a teammate on a softball team that drove dirt tracks.  We went to watch him one night.  We were a bunch of dumb city folk that thought it’d be cool to sit close to the track.  We ended up picking dirt out of our teeth for a week.

I guess you can chalk this Bristol fiasco up to unforeseen circumstances. But I’m sure it rains in Tennessee in the summer. I don’t know if they did a good job of figuring out drainage or if there’s no good way to deal with that totally in a downpour.

I got into it for two or three years (1997-2000). I had a friend/coworker that worked with an ESPN contractor with NASCAR. He’d fly out to wherever the race was on Friday and fly back in on Sunday. He loved it for a while. He kept telling me he could get me free lodging and this and that if I wanted to go with him. I finally consented. 
I attended the 1997 Labor Day race in Darlington, S.C. That was the same weekend Princess Diana died. It was on every news outlet anywhere. 
We drove out to the track that Sunday morning and hung out a bit. I was just tagging along and trying not to get in the way. I was a Dale Jarrett fan the little time I was following NASCAR. 
Prior to the race my friend introduced me to Dale’s dad, Ned. Very nice gentleman and former Cup winner. I also met the late Benny Parsons. Still have pics somewhere we took together. 
I spent the entire race in the television booth overlooking the track as Ned and Benny called the race for ESPN. 
Jeff Gordon won the race and an additional million bucks over the first place payout. Jarrett finished 2nd or 3rd. 
It was an enjoyable trip. Dale Jarrett won the cup in 1999. I felt that my work was done at that point and I began to take an interest in the newly minted Carolina Hurricanes. Never really followed NASCAR after that. 
OK, that’s my contribution to rain delay fill-in time.

Stuff like this happens when people with lots of money are used to doing things and flattening every obstacle in their path, but the weather is an obstacle that doesn’t respect anyone’s hubris. It’s unfortunate, but it’s part of the risk.  It could happen at the Little League game, or the Iowa cornfield, or Rickwood.

MLB finally suspended it until tomorrow.  Both teams were off tomorrow.  It’s the correct decision and hopefully those folks can still attend.

Can you imagine the number of inebriated “fans” there as they wander out to the parking lot, not having a clue where they parked, and get behind the wheel headed home. The place probably made a fortune on alcohol sales with all the down time.

So the Bristol Classic is rescheduled and the suspended game will start at 1 PM Eastern tomorrow. I don’t know if FOX is going to broadcast the game or not. It’ll be interesting to see how this cluster blank turns out and how much of a crowd shows up. [EDIT - my Yahoo weather app says there’s a 60% chance of rain at 1 PM but only around then].

If they do broadcast it, it won’t conflict with the Tigers game that begins at 5:10 PM on ESPN.

They just resumed the game and when the Braves hit a three run homer a race car circled beyond the outfield fence celebrating the home run.

I just noticed that in the 4th the St. Paul Twins are defeating the Cleveland Guardians. For me this kind of scoreboard watching is more interesting than the race thing.

I tuned back into watch the bottom of the ninth of the Speedway Classic and De la Cruz came up with two on and no out and I was really looking forward to something dramatic but he struck out in the Reds lost the game. What an exciting player he is and only 23 years old wow.

This could/should go into today's game thread but I felt it was better here. I don't pay to watch games but today I got what I call a "freebie" due to it was on ESPN or something I get with my package. Point being, I don't watch many games, just follow the scores.

Maybe I had too many beers, or I was hallucinating today, but I thought I was watching a split screen with the normal camera in one window, and a close up of the Philly first basement in a smaller window, and they were talking to him... You could see he was wearing a mike. They talked to him through an entire at bat while he was playing first base. What? What if they hit a smoking hot one at his noggin?

Is this normal? If I really did see what. That's fricken off the charts nuts.

They’ve been doing this for a while.  I’m pretty sure Riley Greene did this the last time they were on ESPN.

Did you see the all star game?  Clayton Kershaw was talking while pitching.  Literally in the moment.  Now, granted, that’s an exhibition game and he was only in there for two batters.  But he was a blast on his short time on the mic.

They do it on occasion.  I don't like it, but this was hilarious:
