There are so many things wrong with this 1993 Seattle Mariners baseball card. Edited August 5 by lordstanley Quote

It was Omar Visquel. And Lance did come over to the M's Mid-season after he was released by the Angels, so there was no chance he would wear 13 in Seattle. He played 16 games at first in 1992. In his other 18 seasons he played 1st a combined 14 times. Quote

papalawrence Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Blue Jays just pounded out 63 hits in their 3 game series with the Rockies. That's the most hits in a 3 game series since 1900. Yowza! Quote

Edman85 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 In what baseball sense does it make sense for a team having a snakebitten injury year with most of their core under contract to add money at the deadline? Quote
Sports_Freak Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Watching Skenes pitch for Pittsburgh. The announcer said he hasn't given up a 1st inning run since last August. Amazing. Quote

sagnam Posted August 10 Posted August 10 I came across this on accident. Many of you probably knew this already, but I didn’t and holy crap. 2 Quote

I agree, that may be the greatest single season ever for a pitcher. But it's also important to factor in the higher-mound era as a context. Juan Marichal actually had 2 more complete games that year (30). He averaged 8.6 innings per start, while Gibson averaged nearly 9. But again, I do agree. And of course, Koufax had an amazing run just prior to 1968 I believe Pedro Martinez had even better seasons during his amazing 5-year run. Pedro's era was more than a full run less than any other pitcher in baseball. Edited August 10 by papalawrence Quote
tiger2022 Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Old Hoss Radbourne, in 1884, was 60-12, 1.38 era, started 73 of the team's 114 games and appeared in relief in 2 more games. He had 73 complete games and 678.2 IP. He had a 19.2 WAR. The team had 2 ties that season, so that's why he had 73 CGs and 72 decisions. The bullpen got a day off with Old Hoss out there. Quote

1776 Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Justin Verlander became the 10th pitcher in MLB history to strike out 3500 batters. He came in to today’s game three K’s short of 3500. He got his three strikeouts in the first inning. Mission accomplished. 1 Quote
Sports_Freak Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Dodgers bullpen gives up 2 home runs in the 8th and a home run in the 9th. Blue Jays bullpen walks 4 Dodgers in the 8th and 3 more walks in the 9th before striking out Ohtani. And then Mookie Betts made the final out. Absolutely terrible bullpens. Dodgers had 10 hits and 13 walks and lost the game 5-4. 16 Dodgers LOB. Quote

IdahoBert Posted August 11 Posted August 11 JV’s motivation just must be the edge he feels when he’s competing. In his defense, it’s probably not about money or even about pride. That “edge“ must be pretty alluring. Not wanting to give that up makes sense. Quote

My wife and I traversed to Pittsburgh last week to see the Giants and Pirates three game series. Verlander pitched last Monday and left the game after five innings with a 4-1 lead. The one run Pittsburgh had at that point was unearned. The bullpen blew the game and the Pirates won 5-4 in bottom of the ninth, walk off style. It’s been something all year with JV. He’ll pitch well, no run support. He’ll have games where he’s just really bad. And there have been four games that I recall, including last week, where the bullpen blows the game after he leaves. We did enjoy finally getting to attend some games in PNC Park. As Jim would say, “Nice area.” Nice folks there as well. 1 Quote
