Related to this, I really really hate looking up stats on Reference and seeing ATH instead of OAK.

Speaking of unrelated stats. I was browsing Baseball Reference and was curious to discover Oakland A's great Blue 'Moon' Odom had a higher WAR as a hitter ( 3.4 ) than pitcher ( 2.2 ). I knew he was a good hitting pitcher but thought he had a better pitching career... had some bad seasons I guess..

What’s boosting the WAR of his stats?

247/306/349 with 11HR and 43 RBI. That 655 OPS is horrendous.

He’s stolen 15 bags on 83% efficiency but I thought that was weighted much less.

I think the rebirth of Jo Adell is definitely all star worthy.    His WAR is full point less than Julio despite 8 more HRs, 9 more RBI, and almost 180 points better in OPS.  He’s only 3/3 on stolen bases but that can’t be that big of difference, correct?

Julio's defense is. Point being it's not as though Arozarena is blowing Julio out of the water when it comes to winning games for his team. Julio wins the tiebreaker on the star-marketing attribute.

He had a couple of pretty good years, but he was so overrated.  Everybody just loved his nickname.  I love your hitter WAR > pitcher WAR factoid though!

Just saw that Nats Dave Martinez was fired on Sunday along with general manager Mike Rizzo. I somehow missed the earlier posts on this. It’s amazing that they won the World Series in 2019 then couldn’t do a thing after that. This is a hard game.

Miguel Cairo has been named the Nats manager.  He joins 3/4 of managers in the league as a longtime journeyman player to find his calling as an MLB skipper.    Shockingly, he never played catcher.

Wow, 9 teams?  I didn't think he was that much of a journeyman.  That's an impressive cache of jerseys that he could have from his playing days.

Bert—want to get you up to speed on a few other things you might have missed.

-Miggy retired two seasons ago.

-Tampa Bay and Colorado now have MLB franchises.

-Led Zeppelin officially broke up.

-Women can now vote.

Let me know if I can fill in any other blanks.

When I search my name in google or perplexity, a picture of Bobby Grich shows up.  I can guess the connection (a Hall lof Fame discusiion somewhere involving Lou Whitaker), but I hated Bobby Grich so it's annoying.

I find myself, like others, doing a lot of scoreboard watching.

In addition to seeing if the teams in our division lost, I also care about Houston and Yankees losing, so we can avoid the Wild Card round.  I also want the Dodgers to lose so that we have supremacy over them.

Also, I like seeing teams that are on the bubble for Wild Card contention in each league lose, so ideally there will be more sellers than buyers at the deadline.

Basically, I want almost every team losing.  And I want everything painted black, black as night.

I took a gander at those stats and was surprised to see he sucked as a pitcher.  I thought he was much better.  The batting is interesting.  He was getting about 15 ABs a season after the Designated Hitter kicked in.
