Man...Clark sure seems motivated to be reunited with McGonigle again.

.421 BA / .500 OBP   only 3 Ks in 28 ABs.    Wow.

I think some outfielders on the Tigers should start paying attention to this.   Honestly, they could trade Greene right now and it wouldn't upset me one bit.

At some point they'll have to see what he can do in Detroit.

You don't trade a player who's not playing well. That's like buying a stock high and selling low.

Clark could easily take over LF. Or RF. And if Parker falters... CF and push Parker over to RF.

BTW: Carpenter would probably be a better play in LF than in RF... but that only happens if Greene is moved somewhere (like to a different team in a trade...).

Sometimes you trade a player to clear a roster spot for a better player.

The return isn't quite as important then...

You don't trade an all-star who's struggling a bit in April.

Riley will be fine, but could be a deadline deal if we turn into sellers

the problem with Riley is that he seems to go overboard with everything. He was hitting too many ground balls in the 1st couple of years to he revised his approach - to the 2nd the most extreme upper cut in all of baseball. Last yr he struck out too much, so far this year his K rate is down a lot, his walk rate is up, but he's not getting any hits either.

Why is everybody blaming the offense?  They are not hitting home runs, but they are 8th in MLB in OBP and 10th in wRC+

The home runs will come when the weather warms up.

The real culprit is run prevention:

They are 20th in xFIP

21st in fielding

This team is built on run prevention.  That is where they need to excel.  It's been terrible so far.

Yes run prevention is the bigger issue, but while the offensive numbers are true in aggregate it's largely because of 2 lopsided wins,  also true they've scored 3 or less in 6 of 13 games.

I knew you were going to say that! 😀 That's what they are though and we knew that coming in.  The homers will come with the weather warms and the run totals will increase.  I am not worried about the offense any more than I was at the beginning of the season.  The pitching was supposed to be top 5 in the league and it's been terrible.  We knew the fielding wouldn't be great, but I think it's been worse than expectred.

Clark's sample is up to >50PA still small but getting significant, great BB/K ratio, great OBP. The only knock of any kind is 50 PA without a HR - which is also true of Torkelson and Greene right now....🤔

Don't need HRs from  him.   Need getting on base consistently.

My theory is

Rookie Ball is a one story house

A ball is  two story bungalow

AA ball is a 5-story walk up

AAA ball is a 5-story walk up with a raised basement, only slighty up from AA because a lot of guys who have been to the show are in AAA

The Majors is a 30-story skyscraper.   It's by far the biggest jump in quality, so thinking he's going to repeat this at the MLB level is a bit silly, but they need a spark of some kind.

I am sure there are a few very specific things they look at with each player and we don't know what those things are and the stats don't always tell that story.

But Clark is challenging the Tigers right now.

And the Tigers are like junk food.   Empty calories.    Yeah, they may rank well in offensive categories, but they are meaningless because they can't score runs.    I mean, 2 runs off of Chris ****ing Paddock?     That's disgraceful.   Don't care how many hits they had last night - they didn't string many together and they won the game on a "how the hell did he pull that pitch?" home run.

The win was nice, but not very encouraging.   Like they accidentally ran into one.

They aren't scoring runs because they are not hitting home runs and all teams are very dependent on home runs today.  I am encouraged that they are getting on base consistently.  The home runs will come.  There are a lot of positives in the offense - Dingler and McGonigle are fantastic.  Keith is showing a lot.  Baez will always be an enigma, but he looks more like the 2025 version than the 2024 version so far.  They don't look like the August-September, 2025 Tigers to me.  I think they'll be OK.

yeah - it's basically Greene and Carpenter who are making too many outs. Torkelson a more mixed bag - His OBP is OK because he is walking and he has been a bit BABip'd. He's already got a handful of warning track shots over 100 EV.

I am not sure those guys will stop making too many outs, but I am confident that all three with start hitting for more power.
