They saw enough of Short coming up short last night.

Short is out of options, so probably hedging against him not making it through waivers or sticking around if he does.

Undisclosed inappropriate text to female staffer

You wanna talk about stupid.    Hey Gabe - here's the rule.  If you wouldn't text it to your mom or your daughter - don't text it to any woman.  Good Riddance.     All Hail Hess !

Welcome back, Gary Jones.

New York — The Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate, announced Tuesday that Gary Jones would be stepping in to manage the team the rest of the season.

Jones, who stepped away from coaching this year after being on manager AJ Hinch’s staff the previous four seasons, replaces interim manager Mike Hessman, who will return to his duties as hitting coach.

Hessman stepped in last week after Gabe Alvarez was fired for a violation of club policy.

Jones, 65, is a baseball lifer. He managed in the minor leagues for 18 seasons, 10 at the Triple-A level (652-605). He was managing the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (from 2018-2021) before joining Hinch’s staff.

Jones coached first base and third base, as well as working with the outfielders in his time in Detroit.

Not mentioned, but I thought he was to lead the Mud Hens a few years ago but ended up leaving Lakeland with the Tigers.  I don't recall how that would have worked out that way.

When I was in college I worked at a casino and my shift manager got fired because he sent out a text to a fellow dealer that if she wanted to get promoted she should come on over.

And this manager works with the Illitch companies now, I assume? Seems to be in the water there these days...

I think this kind of crap happens in a lot of places, especially in the male environment of pro sports.  It's good that the Tigers organization is addressing it.

You would think with all the examples of people losing their jobs from sexual harassment or whatever term you want to use, they would be a bit wiser.

I have to think since the Bill Clinton era that it is common knowledge that this kind of stuff usually comes back to bite you.

Only after The Athletic blew the lid off of it, though.

I've worked for several companies and think people are a bit wiser on what they say, but I don't really talk to any co-workers about personal matters or see any of them outside of work.  I am 100% all business at work, and I work with about 75% women and the other 25% are IT developers...the majority have zero social skills, so I just keep to myself.

But as I mentioned, when I worked at the casino sexual innuendo and straight harassment was the rule rather than the exception.  I was a 22 year old fresh meat dealer just paying my way through college and could have went to HR every night to complain about inappropriate comments or actions from the women supervisors and managers.  I imagine the male supervisors were just as bad to the younger female dealers
