I remember a play from last year (or a year before?) when Jaymo dunked the ball over the goalposts after a TD in a tribute to Megatron. The team was penalized 15 yards on the kickoff. NFL...No Fun League Maybe you don’t remember the rash of dunking that tilted the goalposts and caused stoppages? Some rules are there because those celebrations caused real world issues. Quote

I think they'll take into consideration the fact that he was ejected before the opening kickoff. Apparently Dak spit first... kinda. It's very clear that Dak deliberately spat towards Carter. It landed near his feet, which was what I suspect Dak intended to do: Now this is in NO WAY trying to excuse Carter's actions. Instead I just wanted to point out that Dak also had the maturity level of a little boy by spitting towards Carter. Quote

Jalen Carter was his puppet and he was pulling the strings. 1 Quote

I also expect Parsons to make a comment about it. Something like: "Trying to get your opponent ejected is for the weak, it shows you can't beat them straight up." 1 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted Friday at 08:25 PM Posted Friday at 08:25 PM Za'Darius Smith has signed a one year, $9 million deal with The Eagles. I wonder what this organization saw or didn't see in Za'Darius Smith during his time here that caused them to not want to resign him? Clearly Howie Roseman and The Eagles staff saw something of value still left in Smith that our organization didn't. Curious as to what that was. Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted Friday at 08:55 PM Posted Friday at 08:55 PM Pass rushers demand big money because they put up big stats. But I don’t think this organization values that the way the media and many fans do. They want their edges to be more like a healthy Josh Paschal. Solid first and foremost against the run. If you have an iron wall against the run, and you can routinely force 2nd and 3rd and long downs, you don’t need a splash edge rusher — certainly not two. Very few offenses are going to convert three 3rd and longs in one drive. Z was a good band aid for the occasional pass rush role last year. But that role is worth less than half of the $9MM the Eagles just forked over. 2 Quote
RandyMarsh Posted Friday at 10:08 PM Posted Friday at 10:08 PM (edited) My theory is that in this day and age pass rush from the edges is highly overrated unless they are so good they can get home almost immediately. Reason being is that with the exception of a few QBs you don't have statues back there or guys that are incapable of throwing on the run or making plays on the run. Most Guys today have no problem rolling out when they feel pressure or tucking it and running in any of the lanes left in between the tackles. What really disrupts them is pressure from the inside. You look at the Lions last year and it wasn't until McNeil got hurt and Reader slowed down where you saw a noticeable dip in the defense. I think edges that can set the corner, handle the run and get home early are the ones that really make an impact and those are basically just the elite guys. Jason_R Posted Friday at 10:17 PM Posted Friday at 10:17 PM Two ways to think about this. One, the Eagles are just smarter than everyone else and that’s why they end up with the players everyone else wants. Two, the Eagles didn’t like what they saw out of their new-look defense on Thursday night. Quote

It's only a one year deal, so the $9 million number is meaningless to me. The best GM in the league saw something of value here, so it disappoints me that Roseman got him. Oh well. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago The best GM in the league let Josh Sweat and Milton Williams walk and replaced them with 32 year old Za’Darius Smith. 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago You guys also realize teams can rollover cap space to the next season right? You also realize the Lions project to be over $30 million over the cap next year right? They don’t t just have $9 million to throw around. 1 3 Quote

I’ll use that money to re-sign a higher quality three down edge rusher in Hutch. And FWIW, I soundly believe the best GM in the league is in our own backyard. 2 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago The Lions have been very smart and disciplined with they have managed the cap and built the roster. It resulted in a 15 win team that was dominant when healthy. Much of that team returns and it's still a young core. Most of the core is 3rd and 4th year players who are in the prime of their careers. PFF had more Lions in the top 25 under 25 than any other team. That list didn't even include Hutchinson because he turns 25 this year. Stick to the plan and don't start chasing shiny objects. Quote

This is one part of the NFL salary cap that took me a bit to comprehend, the fact that they can rollover unused cap money. I don't think it is in any other sport that has a salary cap. It is a huge way to benefit teams in planning for high cap seasons without having to frontload deals/etc when they have space. By Holmes keeping the cap space this year, it helps next year as you say, but it also leaves him room this season at the deadline if injuries happen at a specific position. There is definitely no benefit to overpaying a player like Smith just because you have the cap room in 2025. Quote
