I think the real answer is that this team's weaknesses are masqueraded by playing in the single worst division in baseball. They get the benefit of playing several bad to mediocre teams throughout the season. Playing those teams disguises how bad some of their flaws really are like hitting and the bullpen. No, the Tigers had a good record against the AL East. And against a few other of the better teams. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Was this year a success? To me, in sports that are measured by seasons, the goal should be to advance further than the previous year. By that definition this was NOT a successful year. Plus they squandered an 11 game lead. Yes, they had a lot of good luck and good bounces early. My fear is that this team in 2026 turns into this year's Orioles. I feel like to wonder about the offseason moves is pointless because they won't do anything bold. We'll be the same basic team but we'll sign another Cobb type of pitcher. This ending feels much more bitter than last year's Quote
ICroupier Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Such a hard team to root for. Garbage hitters. Inconsistent pitchers. Too-smart-for-his-own-good manager. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Hey, tomorrow is hockey season! We'll be in it and look good until the Olympic break - when they fall apart and do nothing at the deadline and miss the playoffs. I think that would be a decade for the Wings. Quote
tiger2022 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I thought they would finish in 3rd or 4th at the beginning of the season. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted October 8 Posted October 8 3-0 Mariners. No way we come back from this now. Might as will be down 6-0. 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted October 8 Posted October 8 3-0 Seattle. This feels like a repeat of about 15 games we have seen the past month. Quote

This ending feels much more bitter than last year's I’d say it has been successful, even though it isn’t ending well. They still made the LDS on a pretty light payroll despite having some pretty damming injuries to the pitching staff. The team is definitely trending downward and many changes need to be made to keep building as opposed to falling backwards into yet another rebuild phase. Quote

This ending feels much more bitter than last year's Every year you make the playoffs is a good season. Getting to the Championship series is a great year. Winning it all is a special season. That is how I look at it and I think it’s a lot harder to go from good to great or special then just getting to good. What we did the year prior means nothing on how I personally judge the current year. Expectations might rise but getting to only 8 teams left is a success. Quote
romad1 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I'm doing company training in ethics because that is better use of my time than watching this game. Its making me want to chew off my own foot. Quote
tiger2022 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 It has to be a success because the team didn't even try to improve in the offseason. Other than Torres, there was really nothing added. The team didn't try to improve at the trade deadline either. Quote
romad1 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The number 1 thing this team needs to do this offseason...which will apparently start in about an hour and a half... Sign Skubal. Show everyone this is going to be a team in it for the long haul. 1 Quote
antrat Posted October 8 Posted October 8 If they lose, it will be the same reason they collapsed during the season. The hitting fell flat. I am so used to seeing those goose eggs. Quote

The Front Office did nothing to improve in the off season and did nothing to improve at the deadline. Why would Skubal think the organization would suddenly try to field a better roster that costs more? Edited October 8 by tiger2022 Quote

Absolutely cannot risk him getting hurt next year, getting pennies on the dollar at the deadline, or walking as a FA and getting nothing but a pick for him. if we have to retool to stay competitive, do it correctly this time.
