buddha Posted July 1 Posted July 1 we all complain about how soft the wings are, well this is a big dude who hits people. the anti-rasmussen. 1 Quote
slothfacekilla Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I'm just desperate to add some skill somehow with the team losing their 1C and probably Kane who helped their power play a lot. Hopefully Kolesar is a positive addition it just feels like it is always a cycle of bottom six guys. At least they didn't give up much. Quote

At least they didn't give up much. since yzerman has been in charge, they have been obsessed with 200 foot high compete players. they rarely go for skill guys. and the guys they do almost never work out. we went from kenny's obsession with size to yzerman/draper's obsession with grit. that's why hurlburt was such a nice addition. Motor City Sonics Posted July 1 Posted July 1 So they signed a backup goalie. When is Trey Augustine coming 2030/31 ? Viktor Arvidsson is an okay sighingm but if feels very "more of the same". 3rd/2nd line. Good year last year, but the 2 years before that weren't impressive. Yawn. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted July 1 Posted July 1 So the feeling is the Wings are taking to start another rebuild? So, even if that goes well we're talking, what 3-4 more years of this nothingness. Great. Quote

Jason_R Posted July 2 Posted July 2 It’s looking like the music will stop before Stevie finds a trade partner. Minnesota doesn’t have the chips. Vegas doesn’t have the chips. Florida went another direction. Utah went another direction. Dallas might work but getting Robertson still leaves Detroit with a hole at center, and Dallas traded Bourque (for a price Stevie should have been willing to pay). I always thought Stevie was too proud to tank, and I assumed he would weigh his trade options and take the best one at the draft. But I guess in this situation his pride is telling him to stick it to Larkin. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I was blown away by the photo of Steve Yzerman on top the Empire State Building earlier. 1 Quote

Jason_R Posted July 2 Posted July 2 At least Zadina promised to fill the net with pucks. Yzerman is filling the net with free agent goalies who are blocking the goalie prospect development pipeline. Quote
Cruzer1 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I wonder if things change with the Larkin and Debrincat/Kane situations. I think if Larkin has 2nd thoughts, then DBC and Kane will be back. Otherwise, I think they are gone. If they stay, then I see Arvidsson on the 1st line with Larkin and Raymond,, with DBC, Copp and Kane on the 2nd line. I also wonder when Edvinsson will sign. He'll get a similar deal as Seider. Quote

He said he wanted a goalie to compete with Postava, that they don't want to hand over the backup job to a rookie. They signed the goalie to be a 3rd goalie, and Postava will probably be the backup. Shinzaki Posted July 2 Posted July 2 (edited) Would have LOVED to see Yzerman get RFA Mavrik Borque from the Stars...Nashville gave up a 2nd and 3rd for his negotiating rights Edited July 2 by Shinzaki Quote

I understand that they want to make rookies earn jobs but there is literally nothing else Cossa could have done to earn even a start. It is not out of the question that if Cossa had been given a shot and maybe been able to start and play well in a dozen games, they wouldn’t have ground Gibson down by riding him so hard at the end of the season, and maybe they would have ended up with a few more points to preserve their playoff spot. Hypothetical, of course, but not out of the question. in any case, Postava has earned a start in the NHL, but I’ll believe they intend to work him when I see it. Quote

Jason_R Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Position is already weak.Copp Is signed just one more year. You can’t bank on Kasper or Danielson locking down a center role. Bourque is young and projects to continue improving. Would like to have had him for what was paid. Quote

That's a #2 C on our team or #1 if we trade Larkin and don't get a C back Quote

slothfacekilla Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Seeing a lot of Kane to Buffalo smoke, I'd be fine with it. Quote

Stevie has basically allowed himself to be backed into a second rebuild. With Kane departing he might as well trade ADB for promising prospects/picks. Let the kids play, bottom out, hope to win the lottery, and try again in 2027. In the meantime, overhaul your analytics and front office. Simple. Quote

Simple. simple for someone else. i'm not sure stevie is the one to lead a second rebuild, tbh. he failed at the first one and hasnt really shown a willingness to change. not that i've seen. who knows what's going on behind the scenes, but the last draft got us a different type of first round pick....and then the same ol same ol for the rest of the draft. this offseason has seen nothing but the usual stuff around the margins and watching all your rivals make moves to get better. i know he's hamstrung by larkin. and i'll cut him some slack for that. he could turn larkin into gold for all we know. but that this point i have my doubts. Quote
Jason_R Posted July 2 Posted July 2 “simple” was tongue in cheek. I still think we don’t appreciate how bad the roster was when Stevie took over, and how badly Kenny’s draft failures still impact the team. It was inevitable that the team would require ten drafts to rebuild. Stevie knew this better than anyone, and I’m sure this has been part of his conversation with Chris. But he had a lot if unspent cap space. He had the opportunity to promote Cossa. He should have known how bad his relationship was with Larkin, and if he didn’t want Larkin as C he should have had that conversation and shopped him earlier. Instead he found himself waiting and got caught with his pants down. Quote
