11th Round: Will Adams, ranked 102 by MLB... is their HS'er bonus baby attempt. 6'2" 205# LH'd 1B'man or RF'er...  55 hit tool and arm... was a 2-way but better as a position player than pitcher so...

"The consensus is that he owns one of the prettiest left-handed swings in the 2026 high school class... patient approach and has a history of making consistent contact to all fields". May develop 25-HR power... or may get stuck as a LD-to-all-fields bat. Fringy speed and range so may end up at 1B.

14: 4th-year Edwin Alicea, 6'5" 240# LH'er. U of Georgia transfer portal commit.

15: HS Sr. from CA. (hmmm, how are they going to work this one out...?) 6'2" RH'er Dustin Dunwoody.

Not really in love with this draft, ngl..... Really like the Flukey pick. Him, our 7th rounder Brady Ballinger and Will Adams, look to be the main ones with plus tools versus just your average fill in draft picks. Maybe you can include Dempsey. But walking away with four guys that might have plus tools.... A lot of development will need to be done for these guys.

The White Sox and the Rays have NAILED the draft. They are exceptionally better (if they can sign all their guys).

I really like Dempsey as an upside guy partially hidden by 2-way play...

Two 3K breaking balls and concentrating solely on pitching to make improvements in other areas...?

I'm counting him as one of 4 guys along with Flukey, Ballinger and Adams.

Plus... at 22/23 each round of the draft... (and not having a 3rd rounder...)

I'm not going to complain.

Maybe LeBlanc or Pellegrin show something as well...?

The Padres selected 6'8" HS'er Denton Lord right before our pick at 515 so (rated by MLB as the 80th best prospect)... That's interesting.

Not for us though so...

But at 17 (516) We ALSO picked another HS pitcher... not certain what his upside/ signability is... But: 6'3" 195# Jack Byers.

He COULD be interesting, if he has some stuff/ projectability...?!

18: 4th year RH'er Drake Meeks (THAT's an unfortunate name!!!) from Southern Miss. 6'4" 215.

OK... now I want a couple of these late round HS'ers to see what kind of upside/ projectability these guys have.

Give me at least Zielinski and Byers please.

I'm already counting 11th rounder Adams as I'm pretty certain they have a plan, and have already spoken with him over the phone (my guess here), so they know what is required to get him signed...

The later round guys I don't know where they are in "planning" for them...?

that's assuming LSU doesn't make him a better NIL offer than the Tigers can slot him! That's a factor now in later round draft calculus

Are freshman also eligible for NIL?

I haven't really been following that so I honestly don't know...

All due respect, there is no way to come to a conclusion one way or another on a draft, the day of. Come back in 10 years.

They've supposedly tightened up requirements to insure some service is actually rendered, but I have a feeling there isn't much real enforcement because if there were you know we'd already be hearing about guys losing their deals. IDK, maybe some have. But in any case there is no class level restriction on NIL or the direct payment system instituted by the "House" settlement. Of course at LSU all the other men's sports can only get what's left after football and Title 9 req's.

Fangraphs has Adams ranked 32nd on its draft board. Fingers crossed they can sign him. SEC spends aggressively on baseball.

If they sign Adams and Dunwoody with the top four it could be special based on only whatI have read today..call me an armchair scout. Or should I say desk chair.

I'm an inflatable pool chair scout......who hasn't had a pool since 1986

Agreed. Its not football or basketball where drafted players make an immediate impact. Baseball takes a few years to develop these kids into (possible) major leaguers.

9th rounder: Kenneth Ward, 4-year RH'ed pitcher that is either 6'5" 255 or 6'6" 265... not that that makes much difference... MLB.tv says big fastball... not certain what else...

PS: Detroit Tigers website says his fastball hits 100 mph...

So...

That's something to start with...

(And I don't mean starter... screams reliever to me... but maybe he can get to high-leverage reliever...?)

Quick Summary:

We picked 13 pitchers and 7 position players.

I know the saying is "well that's how the draft fell for us..."

But I'm just guessing:

Harris was feeling the heat to add some pitching, and high upside pitching at that, into the system.

Just a WAG.

We are all desk chair scouts in here.
