I'm just curious what Shriver's angle is. Sounds like getting paid to go away is exactly what she wants and so far she hasn't made life difficult for the U to have gotten an offer she likes. She's probably asking for too much money. Or the insurance company and michigan are litigating a coverage dispute. who knows? Quote
gehringer_2 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) Lots of reports also swirling around that Warde is out, but nothing official that I've seen yet. Edited July 14 by gehringer_2 Quote

Also would note that Manuel was extended by Ono, and Acker was Chair of the Regents. Both are out. Grasso has no professional investment in him. EDIT: But if the investigation does not generate sufficient evidence of cause to defend a wrongful discharge suit, they will have to buy him out of 3yrs salary. Ann Arbor isn't cheap, but if you are frugal you can manage a retirement here on $5.7M Edited July 14 by gehringer_2 Quote

He never should have been extended in the first place. How many tens of millions have to be spent on investigations and buyouts to tell you what MGoBlog could have told you three years ago? They've made a complete joke out of this at the expense of the institution, which no matter how you expense it, ultimately comes back to the taxpayer. Quote
Hongbit Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Michigan fans are so unrealistic. You won a natty and got the program back to the expected level of the alumni. Goal accomplished. Apparently, that’s not good enough and they need to do it clean without breaking any rules. In this day and age, are you kidding? The proper move was to do what the SEC does and deny everything and move on. Keep denying and eventually the story moves on and nobody talks about again until the next one happens to you. Then you just rinse, lather, repeat said process. 1 Quote

Then you just rinse, lather, repeat said process. I don't even fault Warde for any on-field football controversies. If fault is to be assigned for that (and I tend to believe that most of that was vastly overblown by the SEC and the rest of the B1G merely because it wasn't them doing it), it should probably be assigned to Harbaugh. But Warde needs to go even if you completely set the football program to the side (although I think he can be fairly blamed in part for the Matt Weiss and Shemy Schembechler fiascos, as well as having hired Moore in the first place). Pasted below is a portion of a post I made in the basketball thread last month. In bold can be added since. Even if you completely ignore football, he's been an abjectly terrible Athletic Director whose teams have won despite him. The only good thing that can be attributed to him is hiring Dusty May, and he managed to botch that too! Basketball: Hired Juwan Howard on a limb, then botched the fiasco that Howard brought with him. Lest we forget Zavier Simpson. Dusty wins a natty despite Warde Manuel, then promptly exits stage left. Learns nothing from the Moore fiasco and does the exact same thing hiring an unproven Mike Boynton to replace him. Hockey: Botched the entire hockey program fiasco and Pearson's firing. Baseball: Inherited a gift horse in Erik Bakich. Botched his CWS success, watched him leave, and has overseen the baseball program promptly return to medicority. Throw in his botched handling of the Dr. Anderson allegations while we are at it. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted July 14 Posted July 14 If that wasn't enough, that whole $12MM investigation into the culture of HIS department? "Sorry, haven't seen it, couldn't tell ya." Quote

If he was one of the subjects of the investigation and the regents or president's office was the client, I assume that's who got the report and Manuel only sees it if/when one of those two give it or part of it to him. It's hard to guess in this soap opera, Manuel has been written off about 3 times already but is still here. 1 Quote

Of course, I would also hope he would receive a better line to PR the investigation. “I can’t comment on it at this time, but the President’s Office will discuss it at the appropriate time” Quote
Deleterious Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Guess I need to buy a building in Ann Arbor and put in some conference rooms — apparently these regents had to trek all the way to Traverse City just to find one that was open for Thursday's meeting. 1 Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) End of the year? Why not now? He's gonna walk away with millions for all of the mess he's overseen. If I knew I could be a ****-up and get millions for it - sign me up. Enough of this nonsense. Enough of this "Michigan Man" insistance. Enough of this fake integrity that they throw in everyone's face all the time. Michigan is just as dirty or dirtier than all the others. Just clean it up where it doesn't have to be perfect, but there actually is the standard that you constantly throw in everybody's face. The football title will always be tainted. But I am also sure that many other powerful teams steal signs. Just put a mic in the QB's helmet and avoid it, NCAA. The basketbal title is legit. But Dusty left for more than just the NBA. He knew **** was coming down. But why should he get until the end of the year? Why does HE get to make that call? Just more noise. Just more nonsense. I don't even get into college sports anymore. It's all so crooked. Edited July 20 by Motor City Sonics Quote
gehringer_2 Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) 25 minutes ago, Motor City Sonics said: I don't even get into college sports anymore. It's all so crooked. This is what bothers me. There really isn't any mission justification for an Education/Research institution to remain involved in major college sports. The whole business is nothing but a cancer that threatens to infect the whole ethos of the institution. It's at the point where it's about nothing but the profits, and the joke is there are precious few of those. The profit should never be focus of a university anyway. At some point any school that is going to retain its soul has to either decide they are just playing for the sake of playing and are willing to lose a lot, a la Northwestern, or else pull the plug and go Ivey league style, because in this future, no-one that is clean is ever going to win again. Michigan is nothing but delusional if they still think 'excellence' can trump payoffs and cheating. Edited July 20 by gehringer_2 Quote
gehringer_2 Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) implication in Grasso's statement is that the report blames a lot on Ono as well. Grasso's statement notes failures and interference 'at the highest level', that can only mean Ono, or the regents themselves. Edited July 20 by gehringer_2 Quote

It's all a cesspool - in a town where I work every day (couldn't afford to live here). A town that is being completely taken over by the University and by Condos and has lost most of it's personality - and very quickly. These people want to act like the moral guards of everything. No backbone either. Diversity was a strength - you morons. But flush that down the toilet to kiss up to a tyrant. You want the cool college town? Go to Ypsi now. But it'll happen there too. The Generication of America spreads like an infection. Quote
