I was out for my Sunday walk and didn’t realize there had been two rain delays and I also didn’t realize that we eventually had a 12–1 lead over the Yankees. Vierling, Tork, Greene and Yost all connected. Valdez pitched a heck of a game.

Gameday stopped updating for some reason. Yost hit a grand slam.

Yeah, gameday stopped updating for me on my phone but on the radio broadcast Dan said we had a 12–0 lead and I was worried he was losing his mind, but finally everything started updating again. Even the ESPN app didn’t go beyond the seventh-inning for quite a while.

Have they sent McGonigle to the minor league camp yet?   (not being sarcastic, don't know if I missed it)

considering how acceptable he has looked at SS, more likely he makes OD roster and they set themselves up for a possible PPI pick if he wins ROY

Oh, good lord, Tork, really?

The Tigers jumped all over Yankees right-hander Luis Gil Sunday and didn’t stop.

Torkelson’s three-run homer got the party started in the first inning, sending a changeup over the left-field wall.

“This last week my swing has felt great,” Torkelson said. “But I fell into that spring training trap where you are trying to make sure your swing is dialed and you kind of forget you need an approach to hit.”

Torkelson, for as good as his swing felt, came into the game hitting .160 with two extra-base hits.

“I was like, what the heck is going on,” he said. “I wasn’t really hitting with any plan. I came in with a plan today. So that was reassuring.”

Tork admits he didn't have a plan for hitting until yesterday? His mental game has been off the entire spring?

Maybe he's the best we have at first base today, but I don't think I have much hope long-term for this guy anymore. It seems like he's trying to skate by on his innate talent. Unless he changes my mind this year, I'm all for moving on from him before his three years are up. Some will disagree, I'm sure.

He’s basically said before that his problems have been “overthinking“ what’s going on at the plate. It sounds like he’s an “intuitive“ hitter. Now he’s trying to sneak a little bit of “thinking“ back into his approach at the plate.

I think he’s saying he doesn’t want to undermine his raw instincts, but he realizes he can’t entirely rely upon them. He’s trying to find the right groove. I can’t imagine that he or any player is an unchanging finished product that never has to reassess their approach. I’ve never expected him be anything more than a 32 homer lower average hitter. Dave Kingman Lite.

He was stuck at first base at ASU for a reason. He has never been a shortstop that ends up being groomed for another position. He has raw power not raw athleticism.

While it doesn't mean anything if you don't hit the ball a lot, he's still got one of the prettiest classic swings you will ever see.

The Tigers have been pushing an awful lot of guys over to 1B to see if they can handle it.

I don't think Tork sees a contract past his arb days with the Tigers.

And if someone pushes him out the door before then, it'll be because they're proving the better option...

I think the only one who might scream a little bit will be his best bud Greene.

he sort of right at the edge of being a player you want to keep. His career goes either way depending mostly on whether this year is progress, regression, or even stasis.

No...

Do NOT want to keep on an expensive contract. That's not even a consideration, IMO. He's on the roster until we find better...

And Harris WANTS better... IMO.

Cost is always a consideration, but we don't how expensive he will or won't be at this point.

Our announcers were joking that the Phillies didn’t bring much of a team - really no starters today at all - so it should be a good day for Jack to stretch out his arm

7-0 Tigers still 2 outs in the first.

Carpenter swung at a pitch way out of the strike zone in hopes of lofting it into the stiff wind to center but he struck out. They already had a brief cloudburst that wetted just a portion of the field.

Whatever was going on in the early Spring, I like this.  Love a team that beats up on opponents in the first inning like they have the past few games.
