he sort of right at the edge of being a player you want to keep. His career goes either way depending mostly on whether this year is progress, regression, or even stasis.

Kind of reminds me of Jason Thompson.   Similar power numbers earl.   Thompson had a higher BA, but everyone did in the 70's.      Power-hitting first-basemen.    When they traded Thompson, I don't think they missed him all that much.

Phillies pitcher King has walked the bases loaded with no outs in the third inning.

Meadows has been smart enough to keep his hands in his pockets for two ABs

Jack with 53 pitches after four innings so he’s pretty well assured of coming out in the fifth for another frame unless perhaps the Tigers bat around twice and score another 15 runs or something and he has to sit for 25 minutes…

They traded him for Al Cowens who didn't do much for them.  They replaced Thompson with Hebner and then Cabell.  Thompson had some good years with the Angels and Pirates - getting on base but not so much power for a first baseman.  So, I think they missed him, but not "all that much: as you said.

Are Torkelson and Greene the modern day Thompson and Kemp?

Right - it wasn't that Thompson was such a great player, but he was a lot better than what they got for him. Trading down in value is a quick way to make yourself into a bad team.

Cost is always a consideration, but we don't how expensive he will or won't be at this point.

I can't imagine that his first post-arb contract will come cheaply. $15-20-25-30 mill per year?

Under the title "Managing the Tigers' Salary Cap"...

IMO...

Tork is eminently replaceable.

And who is waiting in the wings...? Keith? Jung? Briceno?

Just a guess here... but Harris will be able to find a replacement. At an acceptable cost.

PS: One last thought: After Skubal walks this year... shouldn't we trade Tork for a starting pitcher? Food for thought...

Does anyone trade starting pitchers that are any good other than rentals? Seems you mostly have to breed them or buy them outright. I guess the WhiteSox did with Sale, and didn't work out all that well for them.
