A person familiar with the relationship between MLB Local Media and the Guardians tells Awful Announcing that the league is “encouraging the Cleveland announcer team to take more time off throughout the season to stay fresh over the course of the 162-game season,” and that the league and team “are aligned with this approach.”

Just wondering if Bobby Scales moving to the TV broadcasts this week may be somewhat related...

Riley, Tork, Torres already playing every day. So is Kevin, he was splitting SS with Javy when he was available. Kevin at third with Javy at SS and Wenceel in center with Javy SS. I don't think you and A.J. are that far off.

with the roster reduced, everything  converges

Scales is a little better on TV than radio.

I feel like in an emergency it’d be Lee at SS for the next couple games

yes - in fact Hinch even made the comment in a recent presser that Lee 'has played there'. I wonder if Hinch had checked how long ago it had been.

Why would Hinch check how long ago it’s been?

I was in TN last week and tried to watch the tigers on my phone. Middle TN is apparently Reds territory. It’s a 4 hour drive past Cincy. It’s also Braves territory.

My cousins, to the extent they are baseball fans, are Braves fans.  I just didn't know a location could get dinged for two teams.

Does every bit of space have to get assigned to someone?  Should just simply be a radius around whatever stadium the team plays in.
It wasn't a big deal but I just happened to have found myself with a few minutes of downtime and thought "Let me put that on and rest"

Washington and Baltimore share a large portion of Virginia and I think parts of North Carolina as their "Broadcast Market". I can't find a good map to show the territory, but Mama Googles says the teams share DC, Maryland,Virginia, Delaware, Central and Eastern North Carolina, South Central Pennsylvania (surprising because you'd think there would be a dividing line between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia) and West Virginia.

The Nationals joined the MLB.com group this year so I'm not sure this still holds. They and Baltimore shared MSN as provider for their games

On the topic of broadcast markets, it still blows my mind that Windsor, Ontario is considered Blue Jays market.  Windsor is significantly closer to Comerica Park than most suburbs of Detroit, let alone the rest of Michigan. Yet we are supposed to be Blue Jays fans due to the international border.

But I'll tell you what really pisses me off, are all these games that are blacked out because they are on some streaming service.  AppleTV for example.   So generally we are expected to have subscriptions to half a dozen different streaming services (in addition to MLB.tv) to watch the Tigers?!   Maybe that's the norm in certain households, but definitely not mine.  I just don't watch that much TV to justify subscriptions to Netflix, AppleTV, Peacock, etc.  Yet there are baseball games scattered on these services which causes a blackout on mlb.tv?!   That pisses me off!  End of rant.

I drew the line in the sand at Peacock. With their limited offerings, there was no way I was going to subscribe just for a few games they air. Luckily, with YouTube TV, I get the games. But yeah, all these streaming services nickel and dime people to death. Its billionaires trying to squeeze every last dime out of people. Disgusting.

I read last week somewhere that for next year if you wanted to watch ALL of the NFL games you would need 10 streaming services to do so. That's nuts. That's the NFL, not MLB, I understand.

I gave up a long time ago and spent 25 bucks on a Firestick and hacked it. I don't get them all, but most of them. Not without issues, but I'm not paying squat. Screw them all.
