The Willie picture got me started, remembering how he held his bat:

I would have sworn he held it even higher when he was younger.

I learned he played 2 full seasons in the PCL AFTER 18 years in MLB.  I never knew that.

This is a great article on Willie, anyone young enough not to know what he did during the Detroit riot of 1967 should read it to understand why he's so beloved in this town.

He’s fine as emergency depth, and we are definitely in an emergency at short. I would guess he mostly stays at AAA until absolutely necessary, since he is such a sinkhole at the plate.

Pass.  Not sure there’s enough backfill in the organization to take the spots of Carpenter, Torkelson, and Clark.  And just my personal preference, but I’d prefer contracts like Alvarez’ go to ballplayers that can hit and play defense.

He is making 28 mil, a lot, but underpaid. Keith can play 1B. We just don't know what Jobe can be. It's a risk. Clark will be good, but his aaa ops is now sub .800 and it's unknown if he'll be a star. Yordan has an injury history, as does Carp. This isn't something Harris would ever consider, but that's what it would take for the Astros to consider it. If Yordan stays healthy I would probably do it. The guy has raked from day 1 in his career.

I’m not against dealing guys, but that sort of deal creates holes now and takes away the best CF option for the future.  I’m not sure they have much else in terms of CF prospects.  I’d like to see the Tigers build up their prospect base via up the middle guys that can move to corners as they age in the majors.

If they had better options to bring up and take some spots on the major league roster, it’s a different story.  If Clark were closer, and/or Perez  & Jung were better, and/or Lee were a but further along, and Meadows hadn’t flamed out, then I think Alvarez as an addition to put the lineup over the top is a more reasonable move.
