roarintiger1 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago They've got to get Carpenter out of the leadoff spot. To open every game with a strikeout is ridiculous. 1 Quote
GalagaGuy Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago With the JV signing looking like it's going to be a flop, this game becomes even more important as far as knowing what the back half of the rotation is going to look like. Quote

JV got started late due to already existing family commitments and he is old, but I’m not ready to pull the plug on him yet. But yeah, it’s a concern. 1 1 Quote

Oh for the love of all that's Holy. JV was terrible. Paul Skenes was worse. Anyone giving up on Skenesy? No JV is 43. He's going to look it at times. He might need a longer ramp. The team's fortune are not riding on starer #4 or 5. The fortunes are riding on the hope that the rookie isn't your best hitter (by a mile) 14 Ks yesterday. Inexcusable. To call JV a flop based on one start is beyond ridiculous. I'm hungry, let's get a taco. 1 1 Quote

He gave up a bloop single, a swinging bunt single and two hits that were routine flyballs/popups that the center fielder misplayed like a little leaguer. To compare the Skenes outing with the trash that Verlander put out there is a crime against humanity. Edited 18 hours ago by tiger2022 1 Quote

Just about every advanced stat shows that he was done last year. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/justin-verlander-434378?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb Edited 16 hours ago by GalagaGuy 1 Quote

When Skubal and Valdez win in their spots, we need the rest of the rotation to...Win...One....Game. That would put our winning % at .600. 97 wins on the season. See how simple? Of course, if one of our aces loses, we need 2 wins out of our other 3 pitchers. And if both of our aces lose? Yeah, we're screwed. 😆😆 Quote

I've seen a fielder lose a ball in the sun before...but twice? I dont remember ever seeing that. And correct...little leaguer. Quote
CaliforniaDreaming Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago If we are going to make it through the season without a losing record, then this game is.. MUST WIN 1 Quote

I'm pretty sure he'll get at least a month of chances, unless he gives up five-or-so runs in his first two-or-so innings for the next couple or three starts. Quote
NorthWoods Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I'd like to see JV used in a throwback to the bulk innings days. Open with Anderson or DeJesus then bring in JV for 3-4 innings. Quote

He "missed" 2 flyballs in a spring training game. It was awful but luckily just spring training. Quote

It looked like he was throwing batting practice out there last night. I wasn't a fan of the signing but he looked even worse than I thought he would. He'll get at least 4 more starts and then he'll get "injured" and placed on the IL just to save face for him. Quote

And being in his age 27 season I think it is a make or break it year. He has just not reached his “best thing since sliced bread” potential. Quote

The predictive value of Statcast pitching numbers is overrated. It's better than ERA, but still not that predictive. I am concerned about Verlander mostly because of his age. Quote
IdahoBert Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Oh, I don’t think winning is everything… It’s how you play the game… BS Quote
IdahoBert Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago So the game begins at 9:40 PM EDT which probably means there won’t be a pregame until 9:30 PM EDT because Detroit Sportsnet is operating on a shoe string. Oh well, a lot of it is time wasting BS anyway. Quote
