Good time to start one. A total mismatch pitching matchup. Skubal against a RH pitcher with a 6+ ERA. Tigers won't get shut out today....at least they shouldn't.

I'm talking about you treating Fenway as some magical place that no rookie should ever experience for their first game.  Dude had to have his first game somewhere.  Ain't no damn difference in it being at Fenway, Comerica or anywhere else.

Yeah, sure. Fenway Park on a Friday Night on national TV is the same as a Wednesday night in Tampa or Cleveland. Sure thing.

In Hinch's defense, Fenway is a place where  the odds a of a game being won by IF defense quality are lower than most places. 

 

At some points during a long, arduous 162-game season, a decent manager worth his salt has to put trust in his players to try to win games at the positions he puts them in. In our case, sometimes that means Lee or Colt at third and Kevin at short; other times, it's Kevin at third and Javy at short; still others, Stinky at third, Javy at short, and Kevin on the bench. It's not practical for a manager to optimize every single game as though it's a win-or-die Game 7. He has to battle-test all his guys, and it's good to do it early in the season both to prepare them for situations during higher-leverage games later in the season, and to see who's able to hack it in the first place.

That said, Hinch did have Javy on the infield at the end there, so, you did get your wish on this, kind of.

He brought Javy in to make a five-man outfield when it was man on third with one out and Mayer up, with Javy positioned on the third-base side of second. Hinch kept Javy in the infield after Vest walked Mayer and positioned him on the first-base side of second for Yoshida.

Where the game is broadcast is irrelevant to their playing. The only consideration I’d give on a delay would be his travel situation

And he wouldn't be nervous in his ML debut. Every game is the same, it's all just a baseball game.

The park can affect pitching and hitting and even left field defense (because of the wall).  It is not relevant to third base defense though.

Playing in front of 8000 people in Toledo is much different than playing in your ML debut in historic Fenway Park in front of 35,000 fans. That really can't be disputed.
