They usually hyphenate Sister-Dater since they changed it from Schwesternheirat in 1945 when they arrived from, er...Switzerland.

I've been a bit surprised that I haven't seen that many ads from the 7 people running to succeed Rep. Newport News Shipbuilding (or whatever their corporate name is today). A few general ads but no names and bodies.

I think they spent all their $$$ on the redistricting referendum (can we get a refund?)

Was listening to the Hacks on Tap pod yesterday or whenever and they were fairly angry about the lack of discipline in the Michigan primary fight from Gov Whitmer.  That she had not lead more on the selection of the Senate candidates.  My memory is that she was not interested in running for president in 2028.  Correct?

Also, they stressed that AOC appears interested in running for Schumer's job not president in 2028.

I can't remember if this site allows people to do polls.  Maybe we can do an informal one choice as I see them in 2028

Dems:

  • Mark Kelly
  • Jon Ossoff
  • Gavin Newsome
  • Pete Buttigieg
  • Josh Shapiro
  • Kamela Harris
  • Andy Beshear
  • Cory Booker

GOP:

  • Trump's horse
  • JD Vance
  • Marco Rubio
  • RFKjr

If I was choosing based on what I know/think now.   Buttigieg as President but the difficulty of getting through the general election in a country as beholden to mysticism and tyranny makes that tough.

Mark Kelly is a hero. He's also less charismatic than others.

Gavin Newsome probably has more baggage in his past...he was married to Kimberly Guilfoyle for christsakes.

As for the GOP.... show me you aren't Trump and aren't beholden to Trump's movement and we can consider a vote there.  But that stench won't clean off in less than two cycles.

My top candidates for 2028 for the Democrats are not traditional names. I'm a big fan of Democrats running a progressive outsider, who doesn't have the stench of Washington DC on them. UAW President Shawn Fain, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA President Sara Nelson, and comedian Jon Leibowitz (Jon Stewart from the Daily Show) are three names I really like in this category. Republicans found success twice running a non-traditional candidate, who railed against the "political establishment" and said that Washington D.C. was broken and they would fix it. It would be nice to see a non-racist, non-sexist, non-bigoted, non-corrupt outsider run by the Democrats. Someone who can really change the narrative on the campaign trail, is themselves a dynamic personality, and is a good public speaker, capable of delivering a new message for Democrats. Fain, Nelson, and Leibowitz all fit this bill.

If Democrats are going to run a traditional candidate in 2028, with a political background, I like Jon Ossoff a lot. Ossoff fits all the characteristics of a traditional politician that you'd like to have in that he's tall, square-jawed, good looking, dynamic speaker, and has an affable personality. He's also been doing a great job delivering a new message for the Democrats with his anti-corruption, good governance agenda he's rolled out on the campaign trail. He gives you some of what you like about the outsider candidates by crusading against the corruption, grift, and money in politics that has polluted Washington D.C. As far as other traditional politicians that I like, Chris Van Holland and Ro Khanna are probably higher on my list as well.

While I like AOC, I would much prefer her to run for Senate in New York, take Chuck Schumer's seat, and then run for President down the line. She's young enough that she has plenty of time to run in the future. If Elizabeth Warren were 10 years younger, she'd be at the top of my list far and away. America really blew it not making this woman President. She would have been such a smart, savvy, people-focused leader for this nation.

As for who I don't like, anyone who gives off the vibe of representing the status quo and the worst of government. People like Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer don't represent fundamental, systemic change. To me, they represent a rehash of the past or more of the same old same old in politics.

How open are you to another 4 years of maga Republicans?  That’s exactly what’s going to happen if the Democrats run a progressive outsider.

I've never liked Jon Stewart.  I dunno if he always seemed to be affecting whatever the hell he's doing but It just rubs me the wrong way.   I doubt he would attract the great middle of America's voters.   He's Marc Maron without the charm.

How open are you to another 4 years of a MAGA Republican as President? That's what happens if Democrats run a milquetoast, status quo centrist. Signed Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris.

Yes, that’s possible and maybe even probable but it’s guaranteed if they choose a progressive.

Here's a candidate that got the most votes ever and was the most progressive since Johnson.

What's wrong with a union leader as President? What's wrong with Ossoff, Khanna, or Van Hollen?

Fain is currently under investigation. He has no experience and has Trumpian economic viewpoints. Democrats need to stop being so beholden to unions. Their members vote Trump anyways.

Ro are you serious? You want money out of politics so you elect the guy connected to Musk and David Sacks? You want to elect someone from the tech billionaire class? He's your typical tech bro, socially liberal but a fiscal libertarian.

Ossof is great but he's better served as senator from a swing state.

Van Hollen seems pretty milquetoast to me. I could get behind him.

Leftist talk about how they want to appeal to white working class and Andy Beshear is sitting right there winning over white working class.

Read the last part of your sentence. He ran on the most progressive agenda and he won.; We agree here. Running on a progressive, populist, anti-status quo agenda is what voters yearn for. Also, let's be honest, Biden won because of how piss poorly and callously Trump handled covid and because the economy shutdown and people were hurting. There is a good chance Trump wins re-election if covid doesn't happen.

Name me the last progressive candidate to run for President? What, George McGovern 60 years ago? You have no idea that it is a guarantee. Biden ran on the most progressive, populist-ish agenda of any Presidential nominee and won. Now, Biden also won because covid happened, Trump bungled it badly, and the economy shutdown. But nonetheless, Biden ran on the most progressive agenda of any modern President and was successful.

Biden didn't run on Medicare for All and AIPAC. He didn't run on the green new deal. He packaged a majority of the green new deal into the IRA but the far left like AOC just complained it didn't cover her entire wish list. He distanced himself from Defund the Police which was in full swing at the time. He was viewed to the right of Sanders. He governed to the left and leftist and Dems **** all over him and threw him under the bus. The Dems had a progressive candidate who was viewed as a moderate. It was perfect and we threw it away.

Bernie wasn't the nominee. Though the polling showed he polled better against Trump than Hillary had he been the nominee. Democrats have run center (Carter, Mondale, Kerry, Dukakis, Obama, H.Clinton), center-right (B. Clinton, Gore), and at best center-left (Biden) nominees since the McGovern campaign in 72. I say McGovern, because he was the last true progressive-ish candidate Democrats ran for the White House. Running these center and center right candidates, Democrats have lost with more of than they've won. Democrats have a record of 6-7 and below .500 winning percentage. The one time since McGovern they run someone remotely center-left in Joe Biden they actually won. Many progressive policies, populism, and rallying against the status quo (which progressives often do) is popular in this country. It is especially popular when the economy is the top issue on voters minds.
