My immediate trade list is:

Skubal and Torres. I think demand will be very high for both, not just Skubal... and if Torres does indeed have high market demand (plus he's a pending FA and we have plenty of internal replacement candidates...), go ahead and pull the trigger please.

Would Waguespack generate an unexpected high demand market? Like I said... unexpected... But maybe Harris could take advantage of the always-crazy-reliever-market-at-the-trade-deadline? Something to consider at least.

On a WAG... I think Harris keeps Mize.

Uncertain trade candidates are Flaherty (been too up and down this year and currently on the IL), Jansen (sometimes good but too much unreliable to generate any kind of market... unless sold dirt cheap (PTBNL or cash) for someone willing to take him as a set-up lotto ticket...? Team would have to be pretty desperate for bullpen help (still has a decent ERA at 1.23) but... maybe?), Valdez (too much money for the underperformance so chances are 0-5% ???).

Possible under-the radar candidates: With Clark just about ready and maybe a high-end return of at least one AA or AAA OF'er who is MLB ready... would Vierling or Carpenter generate any kind of market? Vierling has team control through 2027 and Carpenter through 2028... so some small market teams might value that?

I wouldn't recommend trading either of these guys, or any candidate with future team control, however... unless the trade return is compelling enough to pull the trigger. I'm not certain either of these guys would generate enough of a return to make pulling the trigger a no-brainer... just mentioning them as a possibility. Same with Waguespack, Drew Anderson...

Drew Anderson? Does he generate any kind of market?

And from what I said above (return has to be compelling enough to pull the trigger...), I don't see the sense even in trading a guy like Jake Rogers. I know there's a demand out there for backup catchers... I just don't think the return for a Rogers would be anything worth pulling that trigger.

I can't think of anyone else we have that would generate interest or enough of a return... Except:

Let me try something here:

Let's say Tampa says "No, we won't offer Theo Gillen in a package for Skubal. HOWEVER, we WILL offer Theo Gillen and Ty Johnson for Troy Melton and..."

Possibility? Zero chance? Who says no? What would balance out that trade to make BOTH teams want to say yes?

Just a brainteaser I thought I would toss out here...

My 2 cents.

Internet rumor is that Jake is the DFA for Javy coming back today.    I don't believe they'd keep Outman over Jake.

That would surprise me. If true, maybe this is their way of getting under the luxury tax.

Doesn't he have to be claimed to reduce our committed 2026 salary? I think his salary counts whether he is on the Tigers or DFA'd. Edman would know better.

I also can't believe they are happy having Valencia as the backup C. Who is their #2 catcher... Valencia?

Unless they have someone else at Toledo or Erie that they could call up in a pinch... or believe nobody will claim Jake and they can get him back at a cheaper cost? Stash him in Toledo and not on the 40...?

If it is Jake, they probably have a trade lined up.

My fear is that the only other catchers on their 40 aside from Jake and Dingler are Valencia (who I believe is NOT good at catching if the scouting reports are correct...) and Liranzo (and he most certainly is not ready for MLB yet...).

If trading Jake opens up a 40-man spot, do they add Carlos Perez just to have an actual veteran catcher available if needed?

It can't be to add Briceno because I'm guessing that he's not yet ready to be added to the 40 just yet either... Or maybe they ARE ready to add him to the 40? With a possible chance of calling him up in mid-August?

Just thinking out loud here...

They would have to.  Valencia is not really an option as a catcher at this level

Not at all.  I would think they add Nido to the 40 man, at least after the deadline.

Rogers gets paid while in DFA Limbo. If the Tigers do not find a taker and he is released, they still owe him what he makes minus the minimum if he signs somewhere.

Nido is gone, they did sign another veteran catcher though.

Ok, thanks.  I missed that.  Yes, I would guess he would be added at some point soon.  If Valencia catches 2 days/wk, our already rough odds get much worse.  No matter what, dfa-ing Rogers seems to indicate that Skubal and others are likely moved.

Is Nido healthy?

Didn't they just pick up Carlos Perez on waivers for the same basis (emergency vet (he has a bit of MLB experience... I know he's 35, but...) catcher stashed in Toledo...)?

So it's better to trade him then...

Even if it's for nothing (PTBNL (not real)/ Cash!!!)

A's might be interested.   It seems someone out there could use him.

Yankees are also desperate for backup catching...

Although I think they want one who can actually hit...

If I were a team trading for Skubal - I might consider Jake if I had any need at back up catcher.   Having Jake there as a comfort level to catch him might help.

I'm on board.

I don't know if the trading team is...

But I like the logic and was just thinking exactly this the past day or two.

Just noticed my typo (mental?) error...

Fixed for accuracy.

I said three weeks ago Jake and Skubal to the Dodgers for one or two of their top four minor league outfielders + one of Sheehan or Rivers plus a sweetener. Tarik is not pitching for us tomorrow. His Tiger career is over.
