tiger2022 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) Guess they gave up on the season. Doesn't surprise me. 7 games against the Sox, 7 against the Guardians, and 6 against the Twins. Would be nice to have a 2x Cy Young winner to pitch against those teams. Edited August 2 by tiger2022 Quote
Hart Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I wonder is some people would feel better about this trade if the dodgers didn’t have two or three outfielder prospects that were ranked higher. If Hope were in another system, it might feel different for some people. In a sense, we may have gotten lucky the dodgers have so much depth because I am not sure another team gives up a guy like Hope for an impending free agent. 3 Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Just woke up to the news. I'm perfectly happy with this return for 2 months of Skubal. You get Ryan who may or may not see Detroit this year but will for sure next year slotting either into the rotation or becomes your closer, Hope is 21 OF with power, he is definitely my least favorite of the big 4 but he's still a good get. Smith is a lottery ticket (aren't they all?). So you got a 55FV, 50FV, and a 40+FV according to Fangraphs. That's certainly better than a comp pick. Hope is probably your RF next year at least at some point. He has a good arm and is capable of playing CF. Him, Clark, and Riley playing together should be a solid defensive outfield. Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I think the fact he is shown as a prospect is also throwing people through a loop when it would be like calling Jobe still a prospect. Quote

Here are what I would consider some more realistic trade packages for Skubal. Brewers: Adamczewski, Letson Dodgers: Hope, Ferris, maybe Harlan Braves: Smith-Shawver, Bauman Tampa: Hopkins, Forret Any of the above I would consider good-great offers for 1/2 a season of Skubal. I am definitely making the Dodgers pay more in this scenario but yeah I just want to temper expectations here because I already know everyone is going to be down on the return. Also Fischer has like 120K's between A+ and AA so not the control the strikezone type player that the Tigers covet. Pretty close to the return, the return we got was better than I expected. Quote

I would think the Tigers have Hope play in Toledo before Detroit. Have they promoted anyone from AA to MLB under Harris’ watch? Quote

That makes me feel a little better. "If healthy" is familiar theme though! The phrase “if healthy” and the current 60 day injured list population isn’t exactly an inspiring combination. Quote

Cleveland is a better team if they could have afforded to keep Lindor. The Mets not winning with Lindor is irrelevant. Winning is relevant. Quote
Hart Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Hope and Max Clark are very close in age. Clark got around 600 plate appearances bewteen AA and AAA. Hope is just a little over 400 with AA. I don't think he is far away at all. I am guessing he finishes the year at Toledo. If he is scorching hot, he may even see Detroit this year. But more likely, it would be the start of next season. Although we all know everything will be thrown for a loop with the labor negotiations. Quote
LongLiveMaroth Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I think what a lot of people forget is the Skubal had an experimental procedure on his elbow 2 months ago. I am absolutely sure that caused some teams to hesitate. The Dodgers are used to injured arms and fine with that risk and giving up that value. 1 Quote

An OF of Greene, Clark, and Hope keeps Carpenter at DH which should help his health. Personally, I’d put Carpenter on the trade block, but I can see where is trade value might have dropped this season. I like the fact that Hope has been a CF. Doesn’t matter to me how they line up Clark and Hope as long as it makes sense. I like the combination of CF range in multiple OF positions. Quote

Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the trade weekend goes. Although the Tigers are out west and that might be some inconvenience in getting MLB roster replacements in town, they do have an off day on Monday and shouldn’t have to deal with a shortened bench or bullpen. At this point I can give or take a deal for Mize. If they get offered more value than the compensation pick, then that’s probably a trade to make. If not, keeping him around to push for the playoffs is not a bad thing. I would like to see them move Torres. Lee seems ready, Anderson looks promotable, Baez is back. I would think if they got a return for Jones and Rogers, they can get something of good value for Torres. 1 Quote

papalawrence Posted August 2 Posted August 2 At one point Daz Cameron was also a 55v rated prospect. Still a crap shoot. Time will eventually tell Quote
papalawrence Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The trade is done. The return seems adequate. And today I am very bummed. I hope Skubal excels but the Dodgers falter. I'll definitely watch every game he pitches Quote
papalawrence Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The biggest question for me is how do the Dodgers perpetually maintain a top-5 farm? What are they doing right with scouting and development? Quote
Tigermojo Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 All three have pretty big flaws that could lead to us getting zero value out of them. Hope Ks, Ryan health and Smith lack of control. At least we have a River of Hope for awhile. Quote

Hart Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I think the Dodgers reputation for developing the best farm system is probably overdone at this point. I went back and looked at the top guys from just the last 5 years and was not exactly blown away. They seem especially well stocked with high end guys right now but we will see how that plays out. Most of them are likely not to live up to the hype. Same as every other organization. Quote
