Prior to his injury, Olsen was their 2nd best pitcher last year after Skubal. Once healthy and with sufficient ramp up, he's a lock for the rotation.

If they can hold him back to the second half to limit his innings, one of the other guys (Ryan, Jobe) will need to move to pen so their innings can be limited.

Isn't he supposed to be healthy at the start of next season?

Well we got a much better return for our guy than the Jays did for Kevin Gausman

I would hope so.  Gausman is not having a very good year.

I meant relative to expectations.  Jays got nothing.

Southisene is a guy I wanted with Wiggins for Mize. I think he will be a good player.

The Mets didn't get a ML prospect back I don't think for Peralta. They **** the bed. The best prospect is probably the low A guy with the .820 OPS....

Mize should get a haul I think. Still think he will fetch a top 100 prospect and a flyer....

I see it too, because the league is weak and the additions of Clark, Valencia, Lee and Baez and an improved Tork can make up for the loss of Skubal.  Take away too much pitching though and it's going to difficult.  I hope they keep Mize.

I'm with you unless they get completely blown away by an offer.

Torres I'm more comfortable with moving.

The Tigers will never have a 30% chance of winning a World Series going into a season, not even close.  I don't even think the Dodgers do.  They are right around there now with a 10 game lead.  Five years is a long time.  They will have a completely different team in five years and you'll be talking about how much the Tigers can get if they trade Max Clark!

I really don't understand your viewpoint.

The Tigers have no Bullpen, three first division regular players (right now) and you think they will compete for a WS.... What am I missing?

When the Tigers have:

1. Three legit starters (
2. A real BP
3. A lineup with at least 6 first division Regulars

Then we can care about winning the division and playing for a WS. This team has the chance to solve ALL their problems for next year and beyond. They have sucked because fans get delusional thinking this is a good team. 66% of our lineup is a joke. Let that sink in.

Fix the fuggin problem and build the team right for next year. They are so close to finally doing it right for the first time in 20 years. They don't need to half ass it like you suggest.

We just beat up on the worst teams In baseball these last two weeks. If we faced better teams we'd be 10+ games under .500. don't kid yourself here. Keep selling this year, planning for next year. Not every year has to be a sell off. But they gotta quit half assing it like they've done for the last 20 years or we end up in this no playoff under .500 purgatory......

I think Mize stays and they give him the QO.  If you can go into next year with Melton/Mize/Valdez/Jobe/Montero, you can focus all your attention on the bullpen.  Madden, Olson, Ryan, Miller, etc. can be looked at as well.

Can see them moving any of Gleyber, Anderson or Jansen though.

For the record I don’t mind keeping Gleyber, but there are going to be suitors for him and I don’t see us re-signing him.  Lee has stepped up and we have Anderson in the wing—plus Javy could play SS full time and we could put McGonigle at 2B/3B also.

The only part I agree with is that the Tigers have no bullpen.  Their starting pitching has been great this year and their offense has improved a lot over the past two months and has gotten even better the past week.  Their roster stands up to pretty much any team in the AL.  The problem is they dug a big hole in May with all the injuries.

I like your enthusiasm and dedication, but you always exaggerate the **** out of everything.

I wouldn't just give Torres away, but I agree losing him will not kill them.

Since June 1, the Tigers have the 4th best wRC+ in the majors. They have somehow managed to pull this off with only three first division positional players.

You can look at it that way, or start looking at how many less ABs we’ve been giving to poor players.  We were running Wenceel, Short, Workman, Rogers, Jones and Vierling out there in May.  Now we are fielding lineups that only have one guy sub .720 OPS in them.

Either way, they are scoring a lot more.  It's not true that 66% of the line-up is a joke.

Another breakdown:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/49489687/mlb-2026-trade-deadline-tarik-skubal-los-angeles-dodgers-detroit-tigers-reaction

Skubal is worth something like $30 million in trade value, give or take, and Hope gets you about three-quarters or more of the way there alone. Ryan is a big league ready potential impact starter who is older than a traditional prospect. (His negatives: injuries, hasn't quite done it yet. His positive: he's controlled through age 32 if/when he breaks through, and Detroit is good at developing that type of pitcher.) So he's a wild card with big upside and an ETA of basically now, and that pushes the total value a bit above Skubal's remaining value. Smith was an intriguing projection bet from the 2023 draft who couldn't throw strikes until this year, so he's a premium lottery ticket.

Another positive about Ryan: he doens’t have a whole lot of miles on his arm for a 28-year-old, so if he can come around to pitching healthy, he could play two or three years younger for a while.

If the Jays are raising the white flag and selling cheap, how about taking Mantiply off their hands for something low level?

I think he's on the 60-day and I have no idea when he's coming off that.

For a cheap price, I want Huascar Brazoban from the Mets.

Torres I'm more comfortable with moving.

I'd like to a "baseball" trade (like how they call it a "hockey" trade in the NHL) for Torres where we get a competent MLB reliever in return. I have no idea of the likelihood of a trade like that... probably 0-5%...

I'm just saying...

If we're still trying to get back in the race, Torres is superfluous (IMO) and I would love to get someone steady for the bullpen in return.

Anyways... we'll see what Harris comes up with before tomorrow 6PM.

Still hoping Mize and Torres get moved.

I read that River Ryan will be back at end of August. Jobe is probably ready this week. Is Ryan and/or Jobe a huge downgrade compared to Mize over a handful of starts?

Ditto for Gleyber compared to Anderson.

Both would be downgrades, but not meaningfully, so I would move if we can get an interesting return.

Based on Hinch’s comments, Jobe is still a bit away.  I think mid-August is the realistic view.

I would not let Ryan or Jobe’s timing impact a trade, though. They can always deploy pitching chaos as needed.
