It's also conceivable they could be a better team without him right now. A lot of assumptions required but the scenario being that with 6 capable starters, is the ERA difference for the innings Skubal pitches vs say Montero pitches more or less the the run differential another bat from a trade would add. I don't think that is a slam dunk calculation because the Tiger lineup is just at that point where lengthening it little bit has a sort of catalytic effect, as we saw when we had Torres back. Of course the odds are Skubal wouldn't be traded for step-into-the-lineup bat anyway - but it would be an interesting scenario to hit on a triple AAA bat ready to break out.

Which is supposedly what a couple of the Dodgers OF prospects are and of course that would address a weakness in our system.

I read your post as, we could take this offer or we could take that offer, but I didn't see a part where you said, if none of the offers are good, I would keep him. That's why I interpreted it as taking whatever the best offer is, which, there's a good chance that best offer is going to fall short of the view of many fans who expect another team's multiple top 100 Pipeline guys in return. If he doesn't get that offer—if the best he is offered is four of another team's top ten guys, maybe one of whom is a Top 100, perhaps because Skubal already had surgery this year, and already showed an owie in a game afterwards, and is giving up homers in bunches—then what?

Say the best offer is the Braves sending us Eric Hartman, Owen Murphy, Briggs McKenzie, and Diego Tornes. Take it?

Their are a couple of bottom lines that form a downside limit. The 1st is the comp pick. If you'd rather pick your own player at the end of 1st (I think) round than the offer, then you do that. The other is you can monetize it. Consider the income value of Skubal's remaining starts and compare that to what it would cost to buy what is offered on the FA market. So the there is some level of 'reasonable' attached to taking what you can get. But TBH, I think any trade of Skubal is bound the meet those minimums unless he suddenly starts having bad starts.

As bad the outcome last night was, I think a lot of orgs, with the benefit of the 20/20 hindsight that everyone has, would just say "Skubal was fine, Hinch just waited one batter too long to go get him". and write down the balance that way.

The trade will be with LA and we will send Skubal and Jake Rogers for Dalton Rushing - one of Zayir Hope or Mike Sirota and one of either Emmett Sheehan or River Ryan.

Or fans could say he didn't get the needed run support. Scoring 2 runs doesnt win many games these days.

Why do we need Dalton Rushing? Is Dillon Dingler going somewhere?

That’s fine and looks right on a balance sheet, and I agree with that assuming we’re out of the race. But if we end up having to accept an offer that’s obviously better than a 1st round pick but far less than the kickass return everyone wants, Harris is gonna get raked for making that obvious move.

Unless Lightning strikes and the Tigers win the division, Harris is going to get raked at the end of this season anyway - he's more or less in a lose-lose situation now. All he can do to fix it is win the future, then all will be forgiven.

He backs up both catcher and first base and hits left-handed. He angered Ohtani so I think he is available and Harris tried to get him before in the Flahtery deal(as reported).

I'm just thinking this is what the deal would look like if consummated. I'm not a fan of Rushing by any means.

Dingler is our best player. Of course he's not going anywhere. But we can't wear him out either.
