Dirks strawman - "people say hits don't matter anymore"

Who exactly says that?   Only an idiot would.

Dirks also is putting way too much importance on the upcoming Philly series. All games are important but division games mean more then a series against a NL team. Even if they are a really good team that is clicking on all cylinders. But Dorky Dirks called it "the most important series of the season." And no....it isn't.

The author of the game day threads does not in any way shape or form endorse any off field violence or chicanery of those players and personnel depicted in the lead off posts.  While not condoning said actions, we also need to be cognizant of the fact that wearing some specific team jerseys can lead certain folks astray from decency and standard moral code.

And thank you for being the thread starter. Much appreciated!

When you bury yourself in May - every single game the rest of the way is important.   They have little room for error now.  If their starting pitching even does 80% of what they've been doing the last 3 weeks, they should be in it.   Now that Stanford Boy has FINALLY (seemingly) reletned on the idea of having to put a broken Vest or Jansen in high-leverage situations, I like our chances a lot more.   I thought maybe Go was going to be added to the back end of that bullpen, but I guess he wasn't very good because they traded him in the division.   Montero has been solid in that late inning role.   Anderson is iffy.   They need to find one more person.    Just jettison Jansen.  This is a business.  No room for hurt feelings, he'll still get his money, but I think they need one more GOOD bullpen arm for that backend.

We should come up with a special handshake to celebrate.

He'll be back in September.  He's going to clear waivers and go to the Mud Hens.  Heck, maybe playing frequently there will get him somewhat on track enough to make a difference in the call-up in September.   You know they'll call him up.   Even though a couple guys at Toledo deserve a look over him.    From all indications Jones is a great guy, but there is no room for emotion in this.   We're going to shoehorn Verlander into this team at some point to have that final sentimental start - even if it's 1 inning.   We don't need to do that anymore than that one time.

If he clears, he can declare free agency, but maybe he prefers to stay. We'll see.

I turned on the TV pre-game broadcast about 10 minutes ago. Have they mentioned the fact that Jones is DFA yet?

Somebody here mentioned the Tigers wouldn’t fire Joey Cora after that horrible send of Riley a couple weeks ago because they did not want him to make him look bad. Same thing with Jamiah Jones today. They needed a “baseball reason” to let him go, and being down to catcher for the next couple of days provides that excuse. That’s the way this organization rolls. I’m okay with it.

The Tigers have actually played themselves into a situation where there really is room for a hiccup. It not even August yet and not many AL teams are running away with a spot. This version of the Tigers is a playoff quality team. Keep winning...

This version of Valdez is impressive. Has he been reading MTS?? 🤣🤣🤣

He felt his spot in the post season rotation slipping away.
