Well, you know, they gotta work in this town ... 😉 Quote

I see Malgeri going down before Lee. They have Outman, Vierling, McKinstry, Greene, and Carpenter who can play OF. Lee can play some 3rd. McGonigle and McKinstry SS. Lee’s bat and glove are proving to be considerably more valuable than Malgeri, or Valencia. FWIW, as clutch as he was last night, FanGraphs doesn't believe Lee is even replacement level with his bat or his glove so far. Which is fine, he's still a 23-year-old raw rookie with potential, which is why I think he might get more time at Toledo once Gleyber is back. They may decide his time is better spent in the starting lineup at second base everyday rather than being a spot starter and guy off the bench. 1 Quote

Filling in at 3rd at times and getting experience for next season to get a chance to be our full time 2nd baseman. We are kinda desperate for a RH bat. Quote

In the first 82 PA from his call-up, his OPS was 527. In the 79 since, it's 839. So for the time being at least, he's playing over replacement level. SSS or a player finding his legs? Prolly some of both. That said, I still wouldn't give him any of Gleyber's ABs. Edited July 18 by gehringer_2 2 Quote

And don't forget, Torres' injury was a reocurrance of the same injury. It seems like both times he hurt it was a hard swings and misses. No telling if he gets hurt again... Quote

Yeah, since his return he’s been really good at the plate and in the field. He won’t take any AB’s from Torres, but there are plenty for both of them. Quote

The team gets the medical reports so they should have some insight, but they could try to keep Torres rested if they thought that would make any difference to the odds he strains it again. Or do you just play him full time because it's not going to make any difference to his odds? IDK. But if we don't play him everyday then that would be a good argument to keep Lee here. Quote

It's true they could DH Torres, but he's been an actual plus on D for us this year, better than Lee if you believe the results. I also think Lee might be considered only the fourth-best defensive option at third base at this point. Quote

That's fair—although, also to be fair, Lee also has a .408 BABIP as well as a .262 xwOBA versus a .349 wOBA during his second call-up, so it all depends on what the front office believes is real about him. Well, the recent is more inline with his historical performance and he’s always been young for his league. Quote

chasfh Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Look, I want to be clear that I like Hao Yu-Lee. He was my dark horse back in March to come north with the team, and he has been pretty decent in his time here. He is showing a lot of promise, particularly in the ice water veins department. And if he stays, I'm gonna root hard for him to do great to prove he belongs here even in a utility bench role. All I am doing here is putting on the front office shoes to try to imagine what the guys there might be thinking. I could be all wet on this. We'll see. Quote

I get your point, send him down to play every day and gain experience. It's the way it always used to be done. Not as much any more, young guys who can contribute have a spot on the roster. Detroit needs all the RH bats it can get. Lee seems like he has established himself here and I would be very surprised if he's sent down. Quote

The Org IMO most likely at this point does not believe that there is anything additional Lee can learn in AAA. So what's the point? Playing every day? His learning curve is in MLB only at this point (IMO), and it no longer makes sense to have him playing in AAA. I'm not certain the Org agrees with me... but just on a WAG... I'll bet they do. Valencia can be sent down. He is primarily a bat only. At least Lee can be that RH'ed bat, as well as come in to play 2B if needed... and I think he can play 3B also. Sending him to AAA to play every day really does nothing. IMO. Quote

I think Lee is going to be given every chance to win the 3nd base job next year. Might as well get him learning ML pitchers and parks. Quote

I think Kevin quickly calculated that, based on his position vis a vis the base, the direction he was moving in and how quickly, and the position and speed of the runner, he could not be sure of reaching third before the runner to record the out, so he decided in those milliseconds that throwing to first was his better bet. papalawrence Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I had to watch after it ended. Skubal's stuff was just ridiculous. And when did Dingler become Ron Hunt (RIP) 2.0? Quote
