  1. Electronic strike zone is 10 years overdue. Do it. Also, let's calibrate the vertical strike zone based on each batter's height, knees slightly flexed, so that Rickey Henderson can't duck under it. You still need a home plate umpire for checked swings, plays at the plate and so on. But this nonsense about every umpire having his own strike zone is ridiculous.

  2. And there has never ever been another glimpse of that same shade of green since then. It truly was breathtaking to see it for the first time. Even as a kid, you knew it was special.

  3. The thing I miss about it is when you came into the stadium you couldn't see the field. You went thru the tight spaces, & then there was that moment your little 12 yr old head peaked over the ramp & you saw green for the first time .. it was perfect.

  4. Last two pitches Niko Goodrum took today were not strikes by any definition known to baseball. I can see pitch height being something one can argue to a degree, but OVER THE PLATE is a clearly defined standard and I am sick and tired of hearing about This Guy's Strike Zone or That Guy's Strike Zone. Time to try it out. It hurts the game

  6. Regarding the first question, I tend to agree. It was left on the field, it's "discoverable." I don't think it's incumbent on the other team to look away if they spot useful information in the normal course of a game. There's no rule (written or otherwise) that if a pitcher start tipping his pitches that the other team should call time out and let the pitcher know. Regarding the second question, some of the information might be proprietary. Maybe the Jays have noticed something minor that other teams haven't picked up on yet. Even beyond that, there may be specific info on how the Jay are planning to exploit a specific data point. I suspect there would be specific information in there that isn't common knowledge league-wide.

  7. Term limits with national politics would have to be across the board with every single state, If certain states don't go along, then their reps, based on seniority, would get the chairmanships in congress and money would go to their districts first. it wouldn't be fair.

  8. I’m back Rush. Megadittos. If they were to implement this they would have to put adhesive sensors on various parts of the players bodies to accurately capture the dimensions for each specific player. It would be a very invasive procedure but you would avoid players moving their jerseys and pants around to their benefit. Of course if they had cheerleaders putting sensors on the players the union might buy into this.

  9. I've been saying here ... er, on MTS ... for years that these misspellings and malapropisms are intentional, and serve as a way to feed their insatiable need to be publicly recognized as victims of "liberal elitism", or whatever, in order to strengthen the bond between the Republican cons and their hapless red-hatted marks. Glad to see practically everyone else has come around to that idea. And yes, @djhutch: I too believe the strategy, if not always the output, emanated from overseas. And I think we all know which sea it came over from.

  10. I see a lot of odd-off calls relative to where the ball passes relative to the box painted on the screen in the broadcasts, vs what they are called by the umpire...but I haven't decided if the deviation is due to bad calls, or by bad schematics in the broadcasts. I think it's the same box painted on the screen for every batter...not tuned specifically to the physical characteristics of the individual players. And naturally, you're going to have different strike zones for someone like Frank Howard, vs a squirt like Jose Altuve. Which leads me to wonder about robo umps, who will diligently calibrate the strike zone for each individual player...through out each and every game in their entirety? How accurate and dependable will the calibrators be, and how would one appeal malfunction?

  11. Remember the “why must liberals always scream and jeer?”? I think of that often when I see the school board meetings

  13. I am all for it. I dislike the replay reviews because they slow down the game's momentum often at a key point in the game. They have made football unwatchable. It's not as bad in baseball, but still bad. I'd rather they get an out/safe call wrong once in a while than go through that. Balls and strikes are different though. Having inconsistent home plate umpires can destroy entire games. I am ready for an electronic strike zone.

  15. I was full on with term limits when they passed. I was wrong. It has been an unmitigated disaster in Michigan & I think would be even worse if ever adopted on a federal scale.
