  1. While I appreciate the truth that you can’t actually remove the book from being read because of the digital copies, I feel that the physical burning… this act in itself… is more than just “drama”. I find it excruciating in its message. Much like carrying a Nazi flag is more than just drama to every soul that sees it - physical book burning is meant to sear your soul. And, for sure, the curriculum changes should scare the holy hell out of all of us. So, if you have a voice and can bring it to board of Ed meetings in your town, for god’s sake, do it. Silence is compliance.

  2. Well, don't they do that anyways? Regardless?

  3. They have a sizable part of the population that is pro-Russian, but it is smaller than it has ever been numbers-wise (at least based on a couple of polls recently showing feelings toward the west / interest in NATO membership at an all time high). Which makes sense when you consider how Russia's actions in the east have damaged the economy... Either way, I don't think anyone would dispute that we aren't going to war in Ukraine, or that Ukraine will not be extended NATO membership, but I see absolutely zero problem arming them and doing what we can to help fight off subjugation to the best of their abilities.

  5. I dunno that it was LA feeling entitled as much as it was the NFL wanting to the LA market.

  6. The sentence that ends the Mediaite story: "What an incredibly embarrassing moment for Fox News." I disagree with this take, because you can't be embarrassed if you have no shame.

  7. The AL, at the time was having attendance issues when compared to the NL. Some people savored the prospect of extending the careers of hitters, Ron Bloomberg, IIRC, was a very popular player that helped his club's attendance by having him bat. Basically it extended the careers of popular hitters and aided sagging AL attendance, or at least that is what Sparky said in one of his books.

  8. India was the 5th pick in the Mize draft and just won ROY, Kelenic 6th and after his rocky call up he appeared to look like a legit bat going forward, Madigral has looked good, Bart is a top 20 prospect in baseball, Grayson Rodriguez is top 5 so even without Mize there's a good chance we would have ended up with a really good player anywhere in the top 10ish range and right now any one of them could end up turning out to be the best in the class which is how it usually is in baseball.

  9. I actually like that. I like it when teams have to make roster and line-up decisions about their unskilled players. That is an interesting part of the game.

  10. and if you cut the batting order to 8, maintain the '3 times through the order' paradigm and the game ends at 8 innings. That's one way to cut 15 minutes of the games....

  11. My buddy is a Mets fan and an NL diehard, and I swear to you that his go-to data point for keeping pitchers hitting is the Bartolo Colon homer, every time. Whenever implementing the DH for the NL is discussed, he texts me a video of that homer yet again. He would gladly scorch the baseball earth with negative wRC+s and dishonest at bats to maintain the possibility of that one outlier event.

  12. Plus I'm not a fan of slippery slope type arguments... "We can't do X because then someone will want to do Y". X and Y are different. You can deal with Y later on. Besides... how many quality catchers do you think you'll find who don't want to hit? Of course there's the exception like Zach Greinke who wants to hit but again you don't set rules to the extreme example.

  13. “While exact plans are not finalized, MLB and the MLB Players Association intend to hold multiple bargaining sessions — perhaps every day — as early as Monday, sources told ESPN. Multiple owners and players expect to fly in for sessions leading up to MLB’s stated Feb. 28 deadline.” -Jeff Passan

  14. MAGA Preacher Greg Locke of Tennessee Burns Harry Potter and Twilight Books, Says They're Witchcraft Some of us keep getting told that we are being hyperbolic and need to calm down when it comes to the Republicans, MAGA movement and their beliefs about what America should look like. This is what a full on, Republican, MAGA America would look like. Burning books and banning books and we're supposed to cool it? It starts with books and cascades down from there if these zealots are left unchecked and given full control over the country. And if Kevin McCarthy and the radically religious, fanatical, autocratic right get back into power in 2022 and 2024 you can be sure more of this will happen. This is the America people like McCarthy, MTG, Loren Bobert, etc. envision.

  19. no its not. if russia put missiles in mexico and venezuela and cuba, how would you react? the ukraine is nothing to us. sorry to let you in on the uncomfortable truth. they need to bargain this in a way that prevents a russian invasion and allows russia to save face. that's what needs to be done. america is not fighting russia over the ukraine, just like it didnt fight them over georgia.
