  1. oh, sweet! just today, I got a second tier for my keyboard stand so I can keep the Bass Station II in a convenient spot: I also got my Raspberry Pi finished up recently. that's it behind the recorder, the grey box with notes cut out of the lid. the big keyboard hooks to that via MIDI, and the laptop is displaying synth software running on the Pi. (laptop is a Chromebook, so I can't install synth software on it.)

  2. Why just a breather? Remove him from the role permanently. Too many walks.

  3. Then child support should start at conception? Government assistance should start at conception? If men are held responsible and it has a financial impact on others, abortion would suddenly become easily available. The same people who profess to be so concerned about the "unborn" couldn't give a rat's ass when the babies are born. Most who think adoption is the answer haven't adopted. Most who think it's wrong to terminate those with special needs aren't in favor of providing funds for life time education and care. Most are unconcerned that guns are slaughtering children more often than abortion. Most aren't in favor of paid parental leave, medicare for all, child care credits, free student lunches, student loan relief...all things that would likely reduce the incidence of needing to terminate a pregnancy. If only the baby killer crowd put the same amount of effort into pregnancy prevention as they did into stopping abortion. Why isn't Jesus preventing unwanted pregnancies and giving babies to those who are having trouble conceiving? Why isn't Jesus providing funds for those who can't afford babies? If you want to know when a zygote becomes an embryo, a fetus, a baby, read a science book. It's all in there. FWIW, the "Bible" says life begins at first breath. So it's settled.

  4. that is a ridiculous statement and you know it. Throughout history I can point to plenty of terrible religious values that have been preached to justify war, death and destruction on untold scale. What do you think Kiril and Putin are doing right now? They fully justify the their War as God's will and preach it as morality. So we don't even need to go outside current Christianity to prove the point though the ME certainly shows how easily you can. And I can point to plenty of secularists who have spent lives working to make the world a better place. If history teaches any single thing loud and clear it's that claimed faith is no touchstone for decent moral conscience. So save that kind of sentiment for the person in the next pew.

  11. It looks like he took C Mo's advice to simplify and just do one thing, and right now that is pulling the ball, which is fine. He can expand his comfort zone on varying his approach once he has the 'get out front on the fastball' thing down.

  14. I'll go back to what I said about the hitters - one of the things that keeps guys keyed up when things are going bad is fear of losing their role. The take the role away so they can't worry about it any more. That may be the quickest way to get them back to where you can give them the role back.

  15. The most successful version of this bullpen has Gregory Soto in it.... you aren't DFA'ing him, I get it. But man, I don't know how you can trust him in leverage situations at the moment. Hitting the first two batters, particularly the second one in a 2-2 count? You can't do that as a closer and expect to close the win out. They got lucky tonight... they really need to consider giving a little more runway to both Lange and Vest in leverage going forward and give Soto a breather.

  27. Exactly. If you were really a big believer in omnipotent creation this should be an obvious view, i.e. "This is the way it was designed/meant to be". That this logic gets zero consideration only proves that theologically there are a lot more wheels spinning on this issue than the spinners will ever admit to. The more likely anthropological truth is that ever since Humans devised culture, the human male race has suffered a primordial fear of emasculation at the hands of female sexuality and thus it *always* looks for avenues of cultural punishment and suppression, from Witch trials to abortion law to the Burka laws from the Committees on Virtue and Vice's in Islam.

  29. It's been interesting hearing how many people have been asking whether it's time to replace Soto with Fulmer when, in terms of production, maybe the better question is whether Lange should get a look at the high leverage/closer role. Either way, the bullpen is legitimately much better than last year (adding Chafin, Lange/Vest have been an upgrade over Cisnero/Funkhouser, Peralta is actually a reliever, etc.), but Fulmer and Soto being question marks isn't helpful at all. And both are contributors to the high xFIP numbers.

  30. Yeah - Faedo may be ready but it looks like Brieske may need to cook a little longer. Wentz .....even more questionable. But so far Manning looks on track and they are probably under utilizing Peralta. Mize - who knows? Lots of red flags but then again, IIRC, for all the worry Tanaka never did have to have his UCL replaced. But I'm less worried about the starting pitching than the possibility that both Fulmer and Soto were fool's gold last season.

  31. Yeah, I am pretty sure they are going to hit a lot better. Practically everyone is playing below their expectation and I agree with you on Torkelson. The injuries to Mize and Manning will be their biggest hurdle. They needed at least one of them to break out big this year and now I am worried about both of them. Their pitching has been surprisingly good so far, but there has been some luck and I don't think they have enough healthy horses to get through a 162-game season.

  32. You know nothing about my faith so that's a dumb thing to say and those who brag about theirs are often the most wicked. You are being a hypocrite or using language you either don't believe in or don't understand. To sit idly by while you know women are "killing babies" would be immoral and make you as guilty as the Germans in the 30's who stood by while they knew Jews were being slaughtered. or maybe it's something besides "killing babies". But you can't admit to that because then it breaks the foundation of your argument you've trapped yourself in.
