Kinda funny story, I went to Jacob Turner's debut(the game before the infamous Guillen/Weaver game) and I didn't realize I was sitting right infront of Jacob's family. Anyway Turner was looking so so and my friends and I were like "He doesn't look like a top prospect to me" among other somewhat negative comments. Then we see a cameraman and Chris Rose(it was a national fox broadcast) park in the aisle next to us and start interviewing his family. We immediately turned around and apologized to them if they overheard us talking about him and the Dad was like "No worries, I thought he looked bad too." lol

I’m starting to think that they layer on multiple innings of interviews with players and fans because they recognize that Shep and Player du Jour can’t reliably carry the action and keep viewers engaged all by themselves. They need the help of having someone else do the heavy lifting of talking into microphones while they, I don’t know, catch their breath or something.

Drafting is a different skill set from other GM duties. Drafting requires good scouting and doing the work to determine the order in which players should be drafted. Trading requires more negotiation and deal making which someone might not be good at even if they know who to target. This is an oversimplification, but I can definitely see where someone could be competent in one and incompetent in the other.
