  2. Typically when I have no dog in the fight I root for visiting teams b/c I like to see the sad fan shots. Hey, if I can't party you can't party.

  3. if Harris decides Alexander does not fit what he wants, no objections to him moving on from Tyler. one horrible thing bad franchises do is hold on to marginal, homegrown talent too tightly for far too long (an extension of the overvaluing problem) but, I also doubt in one off season the Tigers are going to be in a position to jettison all their marginal talent (they sure have a lot of it), and they will need innings over 6 months. so, if all it costs is a 40-man roster spot then Alexander, Brieske, Faedo, HIll and Soto to me are keepers for now, with the caveat that none appear to more than middle relievers and/or 6-7 starters types (which every team needs)

  4. One thing is for certain. The unknown of what happens makes this the most intriguing offseason that we've seen them go into in a long time. It doesn't mean that in March it will have been the most intriguing offseason that we'll have seen the Tigers come out of. But the variable of the absolute unknown is fascinating.

  5. Shep's the only one who ever worked in sports talk radio - he knows where the audience is by now.

  6. Among other things he disagreed with Petry's call for patience and pointed out how so many teams, citing Dodgers, Braves, and others, have won many times since the last Tigers championship in 1984 and that anything but the playoffs and titles should be our goal. Raise the bar for both team and player performance. And he spoke with a strong tone and lots of passion as if on a Red Bull binge. Gotta say he elevated my impression of him..

  7. Except for Lange, whole post might be correct. Lange is to me penciled in as 2023 closer. Unless they trade him, he will be one of the most important BP pieces, if not the most important

  8. Didn't hurt Adley that he is two years older than Torkelson.

  9. Brandon Inge will always be the Tiger's top 3rd baseman. If only they would have stopped pitching to him like he was Ted Williams...

  10. The Rule 5 consideration is a decent one... In theory, they could keep a few of the Zack Shorts or Brendon Davis's of the world, but they are going to have to make room for some of these other guys if they want to ensure they stay. And Lipcius and Perez both look like guys who have a good argument to stick around, along with more obvious choices like Parker Meadows. The other thing that hasn't been mentioned as much is trades... it's hard to speculate on who or what guys could be traded, but one imagines there will be trades this offseason that none of us see coming.

  11. The other 40 man roster challenge is that we essentially have to consider protecting players that would have been eligible for the Rule 5 which was canceled last year, due to the work stoppage. So, we have two eligible groups to deal with. From the glass is half full perspective, we also could benefit from a deeper pool of talent in the draft. Get your party favors together.

  12. I'm in on moving in the walls too. Don't have to make it a band box like Cleveland but it's just too extreme the way it is today. I do think it messes with our players heads and their approach. Visiting players not so much because they're only here for a few days so they know it's over soon.

  13. Rumor is Shep walked home from Seattle out of frustration. He has his shortcomings as a play-by-play guy, but damnit, he had the pulse of the fans with his diatribe. While I think his stated goal of the playoffs next season is a bit aggressive, he is spot on that it's time for this franchise to put a competitive product out on the field in 2023. Its time to get away from being the bottom feeder that its been for the past 7 seasons. 7 bleeping seasons of bottom (5) of the barrel, and this farm system isn't bursting with talent ready to make its move to the majors? Absolutely disgusting and indefensible.

  14. Matt Shepherd's face during that segment with Dan Petry and Jack Morris was something i have not seen and wish we would see more of. Actual real talk in the Detroit media market (on the product side, not the Valenti jibber jabber side) is stunning and refreshing. People respond to the truth. The Tigers are the most beloved professional franchise in this market. A little bit of it from the product side would be welcome.

  18. TL/DR: Sign a FA SS. Trade for Renfroe, Wendle. Add significant starting pitching. C – Haase/Rogers/Navarez? No idea if Rogers will come back with average arm, let alone plus arm. Need to add someone besides Ali Sanchez as alternative. DH – Miggy is a sometimes available DH vs LHP. Will see Meadows vs RHP. 1b – Tork 2b – Baez SS – Sign one of the FA SS. Bogaerts/Turner/Correa easily fit into the budget 3b – Trade for Joey Wendle until Keith arrives for a September look. Marlins don’t want to pay him for last arbitration year. IF – Kreidler/Harold in the mix. Schoop/Candy? Prefer to move on, but no good 3b FA. Schoop for LaStella? LF – Meadows (DH) CF – Greene RF – Trade for Hunter Renfroe. Need RH power. Brewers don’t want to pay him for last arbitration year. OF – Carpenter, Baddoo, Reyes in the mix. Short, Willi, Daz, Clemens – hope they just move on from all 4 Rotation - Harris was part of a SF team that found a lot of good starting pitching. Will need to add 2. Rodriguez, Manning?, Turnbull?, ?, ? - Faedo, Wentz, Garcia; with a huge amount of pitching lurking at Toledo (Madden, Olsen, Flores, Bergner, Elvin, Long, Kirby). Hutchinson or BGarcia on MiLB deal. Skubal returns 2nd half? Mize in 2024. BP – would be nice to trade Soto just for our sanity, regardless of minimal return. Maybe Lange has value. Harris should move Joe if he does not sign extension. Soto, Chafin, Alexander, Joe, Lange, Vest, Foley, Cisnero, Hill, Brieske, Funk – nice core I expect a lot of transactions from Harris.

  19. It's sort of another example of what I haven't liked about Tigers' management this season. Soto should have lost the his closer's gig when he lost his slider. There were other guys in this BP who could have been doing a better job - but the Tigers just stayed stuck in their rut with a Soto who has pretty much been a recipe for trouble for at least half the season. I guess it's like Jack apparently said last night (when there was no-one to hear him...!), the Tigers over value their own guys. Despite what Hinch says, throwing 100 mph is not 'electric' stuff if you can't control it and have no secondary pitches. Guy who can hit triple digits and not get guys out are garden variety in today's game.
