Blowing game two in the bottom of the 10th is on the Tigers. It wasn’t the schedule makers or the payrolls. You have a two run lead and give up five runs while recording one out, it’s on you. Had Brieske closed that inning clean the trip into LA would be considered a success.3 points

True. I remember reading about one man, upon being asked how he felt about a colleague being so much richer than he was, who said: "I have something he will never have. I have enough." I really wish I knew who to credit...2 points

Well he's partially right-we DO want to destroy his influence. He's complaining also about people being happy about Tesla stock going down. He asked "who does that?" as if he didn't celebrate cutting people's jobs by wielding a chainsaw onstage. Side note: should somebody on drugs even be using that kind of equipment? And by the way, Elon, if you want to save Tesla then all you have to do is step down and let somebody else run it. I think you'll be financially okay.2 points

Actually what had happened was the Tigers won 2 of the 3 game, but the gestapos in MLB used AI to broadcast a Dodgers sweep. We are now in an alternate universe, but we’ll be linked back up to reality in a few weeks. Look, if you’re going to go half baked drama queen conspiracy theory, don’t half ass it. Step into it full throttle.1 point

The league really hurt the Tigers with this scheduling. Why aren't the Dodgers playing a rival or divisional foe to start the real season. Then we have to go to Seattle where we always struggle. Might be starting out 0-6 while playing halfway decent baseball. It doesn't help that our pitchers have to throw it right down the middle to get a strike and theirs don't. I know the pitch-framing catchers (and Rogers is one of the best) would lose a lot of value, but they can't implement the ABS. Tigers were getting squeezed the whole series and then that play at the plate. I thought you needed CLEAR evidence to overturn a call? This league wants the Dodgers to set a record. They want that 117 for their big star (who illegally gambled).1 point

Not a pet peeve, but related to this current page of this thread. So I’m one paper away from completing my Master’s degree in Theology and, believe it or not, the topic of my 50-pager is basically AI ethics through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching. A dive into the Vatican’s recent document Antiqua et Nova. Plus case studies of responsible AI - or not - in the financial sector (M&A advisor is my day job) https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_ddf_doc_20250128_antiqua-et-nova_en.html Research papers don’t usually have cover photos but if they did, this one would be the most obvious one other.1 point

the Dodgers were so stunned by losing the review that they made no play at 1st on McKinstry.1 point

The Ohtani situation is just obnoxious. Being able to add a player like him for $2 million a year because he's 1. willing to do that, and 2. able to do that because he's the one player in baseball who earns $50+ mill a year in endorsements. It's a lot like the situation where the NBA had a huge jump in salary cap just when Durant was a free agent allowing Golden State to sign a top 2 player to the team that just set the record for wins in a season.1 point

Just as we needed a new media landscape, we do need to be vigilant as to the composition of the opposition party. When and if there is a blue wave it needs to be a blue wave of people committed to and responsive to their voters as well as the need for good government, rule of law, etc.1 point

I am liking the Sanders/AOC anti-oligarchy/anti-authoitarianism tour. The moderates need to get involved too. They are being way too careful.1 point

It is excellent. It was initially supposed to be an ER reboot (John Wells is attached as EP) and Noah Wyle was going to be John Carter. But Michael Crichton's estate nixed it, so they moved it to a different city and changed Wyle's character. Not only the name, but other details as well. The Crichton estate is suing. So that means any TV show that centers around an ER is automatically theirs now? I don't think so. It's excellent and I don't mind the medical jargon, I worked at a hospital for a decade and know some of it, but a lot of it is newer too, the reason for a new reboot is how things have changed in 10 years. What I don't know, I look up and I love that. They are not dumbing it down. Thanks for that. Too many dumbed down TV shows on as it is. It would be hilarious if old ER cast member started popping up in cameos as an F-You to Crichton's estate for the lawsuit. They were pretty loyal to John Wells. I loved that they brought up the Freedom House Ambulance Service. They were the true first paramedics, but they were staffed by black medics in black neighborhoods so it took a long time for them to get recognized. The Pitt is doing a great job of being about Pittsburgh. A ton of little details.1 point
