  1. If the Tigers had access to both Kelly and Bednar without giving up top 100 prospects, then it’s a shame it didn’t get done. But who knows what the actual discussions were.

  2. Rebuilding a pitching staff in August rarely works. Especially with other teams rejects.

  3. Correa never got his 300 million, so I think it was worth making him an offer less than that. As it turns out though, he wasn't worth as much as he wanted or as much as the Tigers reportedly offereed.

  4. Man, I really like Todd Jones, but he's terrible at this job.

  5. Tigers win. Astros win. Guardians lose. Royals lose. The Tigers were 7 up on Cleveland with 56 games to go, now the Tigers are 6 up on Cleveland with 43 games to go.

  7. Justin Verlander became the 10th pitcher in MLB history to strike out 3500 batters. He came in to today’s game three K’s short of 3500. He got his three strikeouts in the first inning. Mission accomplished.

  8. Wouldn’t that be a great response by him after he’s asked about hitting a home run? Reporter: “Kerry, can you tell us about your home run?” Carpenter: “First all glory to God. But, yeah, I was just looking for a good pitch to swing at and I wanted to do some Carp **** to it.”

  10. Win this series. Hit the road. Win the road swing. I think that’s a good game plan.

  11. What’s the parlay on giving up two or more runs in the first inning? Just trying to be prepared.

  12. but on this point he is almost certainly right. The only way a mid-market team avoids the 10yr trips to the wilderness on a boom/bust cycle is to keep the pipeline full. That's just the reality of the CBA.

  13. How about kicking some Cherub ass today, eh?

  14. Harris would've essentially had to replace every pitcher not named Skubal at the deadline to make the sort of impact you're talking about, and that's not realistic -- nor is it wise, IMO. I would've liked one higher-end RP and another bat, but I don't think even that would be worth the extra five wins to improve them to .500 over this 7-17 slump. And short of receiving an impact player with multiple years of control in return, I don't want Harris trading any of our top three prospects. (4 and 5 are redundant, so I'm way more open to moving one of them, but without knowing what they could fetch at the deadline, I'd rather he wait for the off-season to make that sort of move.) Harris's deadline moves didn't help the team much (other than Finnegan), but there was no way to know how bad the pitching was gonna be post-deadline. It's been bad enough to argue that whatever Harris could've received for Clark, McGonigal and Rainer still wouldn't have pulled the Tigers out of this slump -- Suarez's pathetic performance certainly wouldn't have helped -- and we'd still have Cleveland climbing up our ass, only with no future assets in the minors.

  15. Sweeney looked so promising back in April...Now, adding him to the roster gives me the same feeling as adding Kreidler.

  16. Morton pitched well with bad luck in that the few bad pitches were all home runs. Velocity seemed ok and lots of swing and miss. I think he will be fine. Cleveland will cool and we will right the ship but the knock at the door is loud and probably will get louder before it fades away.

  17. The whole world is hanging by a thread right now. It’s indecent to expend too much emotion on this situation I guess.

  18. I came across this on accident. Many of you probably knew this already, but I didn’t and holy crap.

  19. So the rotation is basically Skubal and 4 days of Keider Montero (in the sense that you have no idea what you are going to get).

  20. I think he needs to be hammered as an elitist for doing this. Like when Bush's campaign mocked John Kerry for wind surfing back in 2004, JD should be mocked for his phone populism and clear elitism.

  21. The byproduct of all of this is that he's made us all cynical. These guys just all suck, they're all corrupt, there's no truth so might as well just put on my foam finger and root for my guy. It's pure unadultered nihilism. I remember saying something to this effect to Melody (on the last iteration of the board), but all the cynicism and all the defenses that hinge on saying "they're all like that" is a self fulfilling prophecy. If you expect nothing from your government, nothing is all you are ever going to get. I don't know what to do about that.... I truly believe that most Americans, on an individual level, are better than our current government. Not enough, but a majority anyway. And while I understand all the political science reasons for why he won in 2024, he's governing how he campaigned, and anyone who was really listening to the campaign should have ****ing known better.

  22. That's such a funny story, I know a guy playing in the league over there so I've been keeping up with it. I think Booth is doing it as a favor for someone?

  23. One of the reasons, among many, that we hate Donald Trump is because of his vulgar, disgusting, sexist, misogynist behavior. I'm sure Haley Stevens would agree with this. Yet, when it comes to Mike Bloomberg all is forgiven and she endorses a creep, with multiple NDAs, simply because he has a (D) next to his name. We are disgusted at the way Trump talks about women, even his own daughter. Yet when Mike Bloomberg talks about his daughter that way, it's no problem for Haley Stevens. Michigan politics sure is interesting.
