  1. Uecker discussing high A ball with his radio partner: "I was high in A ball a couple of times."

  3. Hm,….. might need to get a listen to Uecker today.
  4. I wanted them to go after him, too. I don’t recall hearing one way or another if the Tigers had offered.
  5. This noon start has me thinking its later than it is.
  6. Kim and Cronenworth can handle 3B & 2B. Kim is signed through next season, but arbitration eligible after that for a few more seasons. Cronenworth is signed longer term, but maxes out at under $13M per season. This would allow Keith another season in Toledo to work on his game, no need to rush him, get a leadoff hitter into the Detroit lineup, and also extend it deeper down a player. Both are at or better than league average BB% & SO%, so hitters than can control the strike zone per Harris' mantra. I have no idea what San Diego would want in return. They might like to move Cronenworth's contract because it is longer term and they have quite a few of those on the books already.
  7. At the very least, it will allow Faedo an opportunity to go a few more than 2 innings.
  8. Oh look, a line of precipitation headed towards Detroit.
  9. I’d be fine with leaving Kim and Cronenworth (who I think is due for a rebound before the season is up). That’d help take care of some of the IF woes.
  10. I prefer that they play the game on the field.
  11. That mentality works for football where there’s 10% of the games to play and one game going one way or another has much more magnitude than in baseball. Of course one game can make a difference in baseball, that’s entirely possible. But simple math says 1/162 isn’t as important as 1/17. And given the circumstances of this team this season, one game ain’t diddly pooh.
  12. That’s a fair criticism. I think they were stuck in a bad situation and Englert is one of the few available to go multiple innings. Trying to squeeze a 3rd inning out of him was probably too much to hope for. Add: Trying to get through this lineup more than once for someone that doesn’t have it is too much to ask for. Which leads me to who was available last night and is the composition of the bullpen in terms of long and short relievers what it should be?
  13. Its crazy to think Robert Parish (and a lot of others in the past) played basketball when watching today's game.
  14. I had back-to-back 5 for 9s. I might be on the verge of being demoted to 4x4 grids.
  15. Apparently the minor leagues have adopted a rule that any game starting after 9pm is a 7 inning affair. I heard that while watching the Mud Hens game after the Tigers. They were rain delayed as well, but before the game started.
  16. They're sellers on Rodriguez and Lorenzen. Hopefully for Cisnero and Shreve, too. But they're buying futures, too. Whether or not they're buying currents, well, that theory took a kick in the gut the last few days.
  17. True enough, however.... We got a cell hit us going from north to south. I was looking at radar and lots of pop up stuff all over the region. So the precip wasn't exactly a nice orderly front coming through. On the plus side, the garden got watered organically.
  18. Pat of the problem is that they are in the middle of 17 straight games with no days off. I know, first world problems for baseball players. But then you layer in the pitchers that are coming off of injury and still exposed somewhat to a pitch count. And also add in the solo inning artistry of some of the bullpen arms. And now a rain delay knocks the starter out after 2 innings. It might not sound like much, but they had to cover 3 or 4 innings somehow last night keeping in mind that Sunday was going to be a bullpen day as well. The roster construction and day to day circumstances bit them today with the rain delay. And let's be honest about this. Had they won on Friday, which they had several opportunities to do so, are there as many questions about how Saturday was handled? Probably not as much, although tossing an "eat it" kind of game together beginning with a 3-0 lead still stinks.
