  1. Now we’re quantifying intangibles.
  2. Peres may be higher on the pecking order than Torkelson. I’m just not sure there’s a spot for either on the 13 as of now. They’re probably the first 2 off of the roster at this point, but who knows for sure. A Baez IL stint probably works in favor of one of those players. Sure would be nice if Malloy had developed as a 3B.
  3. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. ---Tyson 3:16
  4. Assume a 13 man pitching staff and take out the 2 catchers. 1B Keith 2B Torres SS Baez/Sweeney 3B Jung/Ibanez LF Greene CF Meadows RF Carpenter/Vierling DH Torkelson That's 11. Now, we can debate back and forth the worthiness of McKinstry, but I think its likely safe to assume he makes the roster. But at the expense of whom? Perhaps an injury makes that decision, but that's no fun. So, is it Torkelson, Jung, Baez? Maybe Sweeney? I think the OF is fine. Greene plays just about everyday because he's the all around best position player on the club. Meadows' glove can play everyday and its understood that isn't his calling card. Carpenter is probably the best power threat (vs RHPs). Vierling can probably play everyday among spelling the OFs and being an option at 3B if needed there. But that IF..... egads. It just seems like a lot is expected in terms of maturation amongst the youngsters and a rebound from Torres and Baez. I have my doubts about how strong that limb is that the Tigers are seemingly willing to climb out onto.
  5. Were they afraid that word would leak quickly that Doncic wasn't going to resign and that might lower his trade value? Even then, they've still got to play the field against each other to get the best deal.
  6. To me it depends upon what other moves occur. If they have a suitable RF option to replace Carpenter and he is used to fill a hole elsewhere, that's fine. What 3B options are there? Jung, who should probably be at 2B? Vierling, who will probably be counted on for OF reps? Ibanez, who maybe they've probably squeezed out what they could the last 2 seasons? McKinstry? The more I think about this IF, the less I like it. I do appreciate versatility on a roster. But I'm just not sure that the sum of the IF parts is going to be all that encouraging.
  7. I don't know. The Yankees acquiring Ruth for diddlyfreakingpooh was a bit of a one sided thing.
  8. 6 tool player?
  9. The strict platoon and defense and health make me wonder whether its best to move him in a deal. Its a heck of a story kind of coming out of nowhere to have the success that he has had. But is this the peak and will other teams overvalue him?
  10. Killion Hayes would be cheaper.
  11. Maybe Blaha was just cranky because the Pistons laid an egg?
  12. I am. I don't even know if the roof is being replaced or just completely removed with a drainage system installed. I can't remember that part of it.
  13. I remember reds back in the early mid 90s. I like the font on these and the slight acknowledgement of teal in the more recent ones. "We're red. We're blue. OK, yeah, we also had a teal phase that we'll admit to."
  14. And you that happened because why? I will say this. Kelser and Blaha were both out of character last night. It was strange to hear them like that.
  15. The TV crew got quite whiny as the game went on. They were extolling the virtues of Beasley's trash talking but discredited Haliburton for the same shenanigans. That seemed very unprofessional to me. The game was tough enough to watch to begin with, and then bad broadcasting to boot.
  16. Well, look at this way, he could be available and healthy next offseason.
  17. Wow. Shouldn’t they have spent that on a roof?
  18. I understand the deal for a better defender. But specific to Torres as the acquisition and the resulting moves that it causes……. Meh.
  19. His father. He was a fisherman and often wore his hat so that the bill blocked the sun from his eyes. I always hated the tilt until I heard the reason.
  20. The change up was my only pitch.
  21. Best Piston alternate jersey, without question.
  22. I never had a paper route. Thats all I got.
  23. Was it that he was a difficult teammate or that he just didn't like to be talked to on his game day? I remember hearing the latter, but not necessarily the former.
  24. I remember thinking the Pistons should trade down to where they could still get Mobley and gain other assets.
  25. Flaherty had a heck of a season and it’s nice to see guys resurrecting their career like that. And we got to see it first hand, so that added to it. Having said that, I can understand why ball clubs might have some reservations to handing him a long term. Those reservations would be on top of giving any pitcher in this day and age a long term deal. Just think about what a bargain his contract was last season. He signed for $14M. Cobb, Morton, and Verlander signed for $15M this offseason. Nobody expected what he did last season. Heck, there were probably plenty of folks that couldn’t understand the $14M he got, myself probably being one of them.
