  1. I think remember hearing that, too. I also seem to vaguely remember a time when the home plate umpiring equipment, specifically the chest protector, was different between the leagues. One league (NL?) was a bigger type of pillowy looking thing that was worn outside of the clothing. The other league (AL?) may have also been worn outside of the shirt, but was much more compact looking. Supposedly this required different stances, which led to different eye levels and the like, from league to league.
  2. I think I'm going to pass. I'm an Eastern time zone type of fella, and those games in LA are tough during the work week.

  4. You play him because he's a future hall of famer, Ballys has to show the milestone tracker in the stands, and all 9,241 people that showed up bought their tickets to see him swing a bat.
  5. "It's nice to see someone here."
  6. It really was a pretty damn good play.
  7. San Francisco Giants (61-61) at Detroit Tigers (47-77)
  8. I am pretty sure the Tigers had the lead for all of 5 minutes from the beginning through the end of that series. Good times.
  9. He has a 0.1 WAR on only 4 plate appearances? Where was that grading curve when I was talking tests?
  10. Whew, our national nightmare is over. For now.
  11. What a completely miserable series.
  12. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/john-wockenfuss/ I read this yesterday. Interesting read. To me, the article paints him as someone that always had a chip on his shoulder, and maybe had higher aspirations for himself than his talent showed. Then again, he managed to play in 12 MLB seasons with that attitude despite being a 42nd round pick, so maybe it worked for him more than it didn't? OK, well, at least maybe he was realistic about his speed.
  13. Well, the ability to know so much more is there. I guess it depends on what/how information clubs use. Interleague play is a good point. I had forgotten about that.
  14. Or when he gets popped for..... nah, that wouldn't happen.
  15. San Francisco Giants (60-61) at Detroit Tigers (47-76)
  16. Is the new league/division thing still a thing? Back in the day of separate leagues with distinct umpire rosters and their strike zones, sure. Back in the day with less player movement, sure. Back in the day with more written scouting reports rather than readily available video, sure. I would think adjusting to a new city/team/clubhouse is still a bit of a challenge for some players, especially mid season. But I suspect the on field stuff should be a bit easier than in the past. Or I could be way off, I don’t know.
  17. The league adjusted and pitched to him like he was Ted Williams.
  18. A 42nd round pick that hit .262/.349/.432 for an OPS+ of 115 for 200 PAs per season over a dozen seasons, some of those logging a couple of hundred innings behind the plate? Not bad.
  19. Wasn't Coolbaugh the "hitting" coach last season when Grossman had a career season?
  20. Wining before a day of >>>> losing before a day off.
  21. Two for the price of one to end the game. Eat it, LA.
  22. Wockenfuss has a quality signature on that picture.
  23. There’s no argument to be made regarding the handling of the pitching staff. I don’t know what to make of the injuries, but holy moley, what they’ve done with the pitching staff this season would make MacGyver jealous. Given what they’ve accomplished there, maybe they’ve got enough of a grasp of that end to where a capable GM comes in and can move a few arms for MLB ready bats. It’s probably a tall task this off-season given some of the injuries. But some of the arms are young enough, maybe there’s a chance to get a bat or two there, and they can go the free agency route for another bat or two.
