  1. “Okay, well ... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get ‘em.”
  2. The resume just doesn't add up to having more patience. It's foolish to think otherwise.
  3. When is it the winning going to happen? This franchise has been awful at the MLB level since 2017. Where are the riches of the revamped scouting and drafting and developing? Or do we need to wait another 7 years for a sustained top half farm system?
  4. Cumulative records since the beginning of the 2017 season and that winning percentage extrapolated to a 162 game season:
  5. The question isn't about Notre Dame. The question is who else along with Notre Dame?
  6. Considering they’ve had CastroW out there for over 500 of the 960 innings played, that’s kind of impressive.
  7. Probably just 4 innings.
  8. Well said. I would also throw in that better now than before also doesn’t mean that it’s in good shape considering where they’ve been drafting the last several drafts.
  9. Cleveland Guardians (56-52) at Detroit Tigers (43-67)
  10. Yes, but probably more talk about the president and high gas prices.
  11. It would seem less likely that Avila would be the GM then, so, yes there could be some hope.
  12. Yes, it wasn't exactly a deep dive into the farm systems, but the earlier drafts leave a bit to be desired. The focus for Avila going forward was to build up the pipeline. He was right, the Tigers did need to improve its farm system and its record of drafting & developing its own players was awful. Makes one wonder why teams would trade established players for Tiger prospects, but Dombrowski did pretty well at that a few times. As for 2016, you are correct, Schreiber's 2.3 WAR is solely with Boston after Detroit let him go away for nothing. Additionally, Cub's Keegan Thompson was a 33rd round draftee of the Tigers that draft, but didn't sign. He was drafted by the Cubs the next season, signed with them, and has produced 2.3 WAR in the MLB for the Cubs. So, it another 2.3 that got away. If you want to count Barnhart for 2019 because of the Quintana trade, have at it. Meadows and Rodriguez for 2022, sure. We can count Lipcius, Bergner, and Carpenter when they arrive and produce in MLB. Brieske has, and he's done well considering. It was just a quick and cheap look at who the Tigers drafted and what they have produced in MLB so far. It certainly wasn't a complete picture. It can be called a half assed attempt at analysis, and that's fine. But I don't think its wrong to point out that the players taken in those drafts, particularly the higher choices, should be in MLB producing right now. And I just don't think it is necessarily happening, particularly with the earlier drafts and with position players.
  13. Tampa Bay Rays (57-50) at Detroit Tigers (43-66)
  14. Well, let’s be honest. Shame on the Tigers for not honoring Whitaker before now (and, yes, before 2020 when this was originally scheduled).
  15. I think Torkleson will be fine. He stumbled out of the gate, it happens. But there needs to be more out of top of the round slots and more out of this emphasis on building from within.
  16. The other aspect to it will be the commentary during the ceremony about being snubbed by the hall of fame. MLB won’t want to broadcast that.
  17. Ain’t gonna happen with Avila.
  18. The 2016 draft has accrued 4.6 WAR in MLB action to date. About 4.6 of that 4.6 has been with MLB teams not named the Detroit Tigers. The two players accounting for that 4.6 were lost due to not signing out of the draft and lost via waivers. Not sure much else from this crew offers hope. The 2017 draft has accrued a negative 0.4 WAR. That’d be nice if this were golf and WAR was par. Faedo, Vest, and Carlton were in this draft. Yippee. The 2018 draft is much better thanks to Mize and Skubal. They account for 5.8 WAR of the 5.5 total accrued WAR. Meadows might have some promise still, but it’s been a choppy pro career. The 2019 draft class is still on the young side. Greene and Brieske have made their debuts. There’s still some hope for Kreidler and maybe Lipcius, but it’s just optimistic potential at this point. But, yeah, time will tell. How much more time?
  19. Shouldn’t the Tigers be enjoying the fruits of Avila’s earliest drafts as GM right about now?
  20. Somehow the entertainment of Baez has killed off the mystique of Hinch. I guess we can’t have too much of a good thing.
  21. His BB% and HR% are down considerably and his SO% is up considerably. I don’t trust the hitting coaches, but it’s worth a try for the rest of this season.
  22. I saw this and thought the same. Put Cabrera on the IL, let Reyes get the DH role for a bit.
  23. It isn't the farm system that's loaded.
