They can’t bubble wrap them, but some of the arms need to have their innings watched. I don’t think Keuchel makes sense as of now. But, let’s be honest, the Tigers have not had much luck with pitching health so far this season. They may be scraping around for pitching before the season is out. I wouldn’t dump anyone from the 40 for him, but if injuries escalate and guys assumed to be back from the 60 aren’t before the end of the season, what do the Tigers do? I suppose they could just bring guys up from AAA, but keep in mind that the AAA seasons are extended to the end of September. Maybe they just promote from AA if they pull enough from AAA, but again, they’ll have workloads to monitor.

I understand why people wouldn't want Keuchel. The drop in production has been stunning if you look at this HR, H, and BB ratios. He certainly wouldn't be a long term consideration, and wouldn't even be a rehab for trade type of consideration. I didn't think he was worth pursuing before when Chicago put him on waivers. However, we're all aware how the Tigers can't keep pitchers healthy lately. Keuchel could be cheap fodder just to get through the season. It may come to that. Do you guys remember Randy Wolf signing with the Tigers out of nowhere? Maybe Keuchel fills out 50 or so innings for the Tigers. At this point its not about covering 1,400 innings for the season. Its about covering 600 innings to get to the offseason without subjecting some of the young arms to too much of a workload while trying to patch together a pitching rotation that is down to 2 of its primary 5 coming into the season as well as digging deeply into its projected reserves. Heck, we assume (hope) that Skubal and Pineda remain healthy enough to finish out the season.

The jerseys were awful. David Ortiz clowning with the dugout was awful. I liked talking to the pitcher on the mound. I would absolutely hate it during a real game of consequence. But during an all star game? Yeah, I liked when he was guessing what sign he thought the catcher was going to give him. That was a different angle to a broadcast.

I agree with you in principle about taking the best prospect(s), if the return is sufficient enough. Maybe the positon player over pitcher comes in as a tiebreaker of sorts if given a choice of similar type overall potential. It would be nice to find a bat that's close to MLB ready, maybe with an ETA of 2023/4. As far as the pitching this season, it has more than held up its end when you consider all of the injuries that have wrecked the pitching staff. For all of the criticism of this team/season, its tough to throw stones at the work that Fetter has done. I think its due for an implosion in the 2nd half, and I hope that people remain cognizant of the work that the Tigers have done squeezing lemonade out of crab apples.

Oh, I think that ND to the B10 would already be a done deal if NBC gets a piece of the B10 broadcasts.

I haven’t really paid much attention to this draft because (1) I normally don’t and (2) the rebuild is over. I don’t like taking a DH either. Sure, they talk about sending him to LF or 1B, but if he can’t run, he’s a liability in LF. And Torkleson is the 1B for the future despite a rough rookie season. I suppose he could end up being trade fodder. On the other hand, I’ll have to call out my own ignorance because I really don’t know what the better option was. Perhaps this was the last pick of this certain tier of players, and the remaining players are just not as good. That seems doubtful, but it’s possible.

That’s understandable. It just doesn’t seem this collection of “hitters” should be so absolutely awful.

What can we take away from Coolbaugh and the Tigers last season? Haase and Baddoo came out of nowhere. Grossman had a career kind of season. Candelario was good. Cabrera is really too old to evaluate in this context. Schoop was ok. Rogers had success in a shortened stint. Everybody else was garbage, for the most part, but there’s a bunch of nondescript hitters bundled up in there. Maybe there’s nothing to take away.

I wonder how much of the rest of the lineup, the clubhouse atmosphere, etc, affects the two prized rookies.

Hinch doesn’t come across very charismatic, not lately anyway. Could be the toll of losing, could be that’s just his persona with the media and may be more charismatic with his employs. Personally I would stick someone like Urban Meyer in between the spectrum of Hinch and Hitler.
