Al Avila: “You’ve got to go full bore from Day 1"
casimir replied to Useful Idiot's topic in Detroit Tigers
It isn't the farm system that's loaded. -
Just think what he could do with better stadium lighting.
-
Hell, he might be called up. Maybe he can hit, too.

It will collapse. I don't know that I feel right blaming them for what will likely occur. They've done marvelous work in the first 4 months of the season when considering the health of the pitching staff. An adequate offense should have this team around .500. -

Candelario might have been in the 3B mix for the 1984 Tigers. Heck, Darrell Evans got some run over there, so 2022 Cabrera might have been in the mix, too. -

I glanced at the 84 pitching staff not that long ago. It was a 4 1/2 man starting rotation. Oh, heck, going off of memory sucks. Let's take a stroll down memory lane.... 14 pitchers used for the whole season. That's it. That's the list. I don't think its possible to compare 1984 to 2022 or a projected 2025. Its a different era, a different game. Look at those IPs by pitcher. The top 4 SPs and the top 2 RPs accounted for around 76% of the total team IP. Morris, Petry, and Wilcox started over 100 games and averaged 6.5 IP per start. But also look at those SO9 numbers. 5.6 as a pitching staff? That doesn't play today when the MLB average is 8.5. -

Its a completely different era. Completely different front office. No, your "answers" are wrong. No. No. No. -

Is it going to be weird seeing Cabrera on the 60 day IL all next season but still get a plate appearance in the all star game?

What an awful exercise of futility. Are you still in Tennessee? Go get some fresh air. Do not feed the bears. -
I tend to agree as of now. He's had a truly amazingly awful season and the plate and in the field. He's at $5.8M this season. I think they current organization will stick with him and assume he bounces back next season (and at some point this season).

I guess you could also wonder if the opposition sees the Tigers and decides its a good time to rest some regulars. But, hey, they bench guys gotta eat, too. -

Hmmm...... Sounds like a challenge that might be of interest to watch. -

The thing is, the pitching side of the equation hasn't been the issue. Its mind boggling how the random fill in pitching staff combined with sometimes craptastic defense has kept the Tigers at 4.40 runs allowed per game versus an MLB average of 4.33. -
I had something slightly different, but it could be rounding.

Stat of the day: The Tigers leaders in innings pitched are: Tarik Skubal 117 2/3 Beau Brieske, 81 2/3 Drew Hutchison, 55 2/3 Alex Faedo, 53 1/3 Rony Garcia, 51 Bonus stat of the day: Hutchison is the only of the 5 that is not currently on the IL. Enjoy your day, morans. -
I said it in the game thread regarding Cabrera's knee and the games off that he will get while remaining on the active roster and I'll repeat it here: Why not just put Cabrera on the IL? His only purpose is to hit and he doesn't do that well enough to hold a roster spot for him if he's physically unavailable. I understand there aren't many bats on the 40 to call up to replace him, but they're limiting their bench opportunities. This is a chance to bring someone up and give them a look to determine if they're worthy of consideration for 2023. Its completely asinine and irresponsible roster management.
