  1. I’m sure it’s happened before, and I’m not judging NIL or what happened before or under the table or out in the open or any of that. It just struck me that some guys are going to make more money as an “amateur” than they will as an active (to some extent) pro, and that amateur/pro thing amuses me.
  2. I doubt that it happens this season. Kreidler might get some chances at SS, but it will probably be with Baez at DH or out of the game. My guess is that he'll get opportunities around the IF, maybe not necessarily every day, but maybe 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 games, something like that. I don't think they'll move their prized offseason position player acquisition off of SS. They've already had enough bad press with the rebuild is over followed by Avila's firing, and the on field play, and Rodriguez' absence (regardless of the true story behind it), etc.
  3. Yes, for all of the grief that Coolbaugh takes, Hessman seems to fly under the radar. I don't know how much blame either deserves, but its clear something needs to be done.
  4. Seattle Mariners (72-58) at Detroit Tigers (50-80)
  5. With Kreidler up, it would seem that Short would be sent to Toledo if/when the need arises for another pitcher or catcher. Speaking of catchers, with the exception of the early on services of Garneau, the Tigers' catching duo has not needed to be replaced at all (well..... healthwise anyway) this season.
  6. Stat of the day: Harold Castro has a career 0.1 WAR as a pitcher.
  7. This is just saddening. Mother of a 14-year-old girl killed by touching downed electrical line shares final moments Kid grabbed a live wire thinking it was nothing more than a twig. Completely innocent action with tragic consquences. To make things worse, first responders arrived, but could do nothing until the wire was deactivated. I simply cannot fathom.
  8. The Irish are just like everybody else. They want what's best for them. They'll pretend otherwise, but everybody knows the drill. Money is green. Shamrocks are green.
  9. Or when we're ready for a new regime.
  10. I don't understand "classic" when they've never worn green before. I don't mind the jerseys. The sideways stripes on the shorts are bit odd. But I like the simple shirts. Green & yellow work well together.
  11. It was a smart play by the defender. I really didn't pick up on any movement towards 2B but then I didn't see what the umpire saw. Its probably one of those plays where, from the angle posted here, it could have gone either way.
  12. What kind of conversations did you have whilst holding the runner on?
  13. Yes, I remember learning this at an early age. When I coached, we worked on this in one of the first few practices of the seasons. We would have the base coaches, and we would run through 1B on hits and on running through outs or close plays. See the bag, listen for the coach's voice.
  14. He's likely to get his shot. The Tigers are probably due for another pitching injury soon.
  15. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
  16. Seattle Mariners (71-58) at Detroit Tigers (50-79)
  17. Grossman, Candelario, Baddoo, Schoop,... they've all bottomed out this season after last season, just completely and absurdly fell off of the cliff. CastoW, CastroH, Reyes, Haase,.... they've all maintained or improved, but they're all within shouting distance of 100 OPS+, so is there much of a gain here? Now you throw in guys like Torkelson, Baez, Greene,..... 3 newcomers to Detroit, 2 of which have fallen short of expectations and one which is middle of the road. It's easy to say Coolbaugh (and maybe Hessman) should be removed and new hitting coaches brought in this offseason. And that's where my opinion is. But I guess I am open to the idea that these are the same coaches that had success with the first quartet last season and "improved" the second grouping of players, so maybe the blame doesn't solely fall on the shoulders of the coaching. A lot of issues have gone wrong with this lineup. Slumps that haven't ended, injuries, new acquisitions that haven't panned out. Who knows, maybe last year was just about as lucky as could be expected and this season was the exact opposite, and the bridge between those two extremes is just something short of average?
  18. I think part of the reason was a question about if Jung's bat would translate to MLB fastballs.
  19. Seattle Mariners (70-58) at Detroit Tigers (50-78)
  20. I wish we could bring back the Suarez for Simon thread.
  21. Yeah, sounds like he pulled himself.
