  1. Avila talking about an unassisted double play he had with the Tigers (in 2013). He tagged at a runner between 3rd and home around 3rd, and then tagged the next runner trying to advance to 3rd. ”Obviously any runner that was caught in a rundown between me and Miguel…. advantage runner.”
  2. You are clearly a few minutes ahead of me on the radio broadcast. But damn it, it’s good analysis and a story out of Avila.
  3. Dickerson is good at his craft, but I don’t believe what he was trying to describe there. Avila now bringing up the fact that during a rundown, if a player is coming at the runner from a direction that isn’t either base, that player should run straight to the runner and make the runner decide on a base to run to.
  4. I blame Josh Harrison. Hold on, can you really blame him?
  5. I texted my dad to stay awake whilst the White Sox had no hits. Did I did wrong?
  6. So, how much has a stronger defense up the middle helped out the pitching staff this season? And I’ll throw In Torkleson’s defense over Schoop at 1B last season (somewhere between admirable & commendable), too.
  7. They’re having issues with the app, too?
  8. Anyone else having issues with the BSD app? No picture at all.
  9. My grandfather would come over and the cocker spaniel mutt that we had when I grew up at home couldn’t get enough of him. Jumping at the door, crying and whining to say hello, couldn’t wait for him to sit down so she could climb up into his lap for attention. Oh man, it was like the rest of the world ignored her and he was his only attention when he visited. And she was a pleasant dog for everyone else, but oh man, when he came over, it was heaven on earth for her. Then after she died, my parents got another cocker mutt, and she didn’t like Grandpa at all. She would cower around the house, keep her distance, never let herself within ten feet of him. But everybody else was fine, she didn’t mind anyone else at all. Dogs can be silly like that. Sorry about your loss. Diego sounds like a wonderful companion.
  10. Might as well win this game today.
  11. Nah, 8-4. Let’s go, 12-4 going into the all star break. Who’s with me?
  12. I don’t think selling RPs is necessarily an acknowledgment of timing of a rebuild. Sometimes players need to moved from depth and/or it’s just time to cash in on value at its peak if it isn’t going to result in a postseason appearance.
  13. Even with a new approach, his current hard hit rate and ISO are unsustainable. Now, the question is where along the spectrum of the before and current will the new approach put him? If this is just a Sheltonesque hot streak, enjoy it while it’s there. If it’s JD Martinez light, nice work by he and the Rays.
  14. I guess I was a little late on this.
  15. Might as well win the rest of the games this season, too.
  16. Maybe he can pitch the 9th today?
  17. Checks? Didn’t you see the movie about Billy Beane? He invented direct deposit.
  18. Luck? He tripled on an 0-2 a few games ago. He lulls the pitcher into false confidence and then takes his base on a hit of his choosing.
  19. Gotta build up the all star credentials.
  20. It’s a shame posts like that have been erased.
  21. I like Omaha’s airport. Not too big, not too small, easy in & out.
  22. Might as well win this game, too.
  23. Career WAR (11 seasons) was 23.1. 7 season peak WAR was 21.5. I didn't realize how good his seasons were at ages 25 & 26 (OPS+ of 145 & 133).
  24. That’s a fair point, each team had a few scheduled due to the lost two weeks. But the extra player is allowed for doubleheaders. I think a bigger issue is the evolution of throwing harder rather than pitching.
  25. Why should teams be allowed more pitchers this year? MLB allowed 14 Ps through, what, Memorial Day or sometime after that? Do other teams have a similar catalog of pitching injuries that the Tigers do?
