Pitch counts? Innings limitations? Have the clubbie make sure you have a few heaters available in the dugour, throw your CG, pound a few Budweisers while icing your arm afterwards, and then call it a day.
So, yeah, +21 seems unbelievably high in comparison. I think.
Are defensive metrics still largely a work in progress? Is defensive positioning helping him? Isn’t defensive range one of the earlier skill sets that declines; is he somehow avoiding this for now?
Sorry, that number compared to the rest just sticks out so much to me. I’m trying to figure it out without breaking into formulae.
Ok, how does the +21 compare to his previous seasons? Or how does it compare among 2B in recent seasons where heavy shifting has been employed? That +21 just sticks out way too much from those other players.
Speaking of shifts, last night was the first time that I’ve seen a 4 OF / 3 IF alignment live and in person. We were behind the plate in the upper tank when the Blue Jays pulled this shift for Kyle Schwaber. My oldest daughter realized it right away and asked me what was going on. (Made me proud that she picked up on it, maybe I’m doing a decent job of parenting?)
I don’t know. The Tigers did receive Reese Olson for Daniel Norris, so there’s always a chance, right?
But this doesn’t excuse batting Grossman 3rd in the lineup or demoting Clemens.
In fairness to Avila, Hinch (ah, remember when he was the author of all things good?), or any Other GM looking to peddle Grossman, what are they reasonably going to get for him?
