  1. They need to make all of the changes that need to be made, even the hard ones.
  2. Cabrera won't. Heck, he might not be next season.
  3. Variety is the spice of life.
  4. You don't check for game threads right after you open your eyes? What kind of fan are you?
  5. Detroit Tigers (43-70) at Chicago White Sox (56-56)
  6. I don’t think he’s blocking anyone amazing. But he is blocking anyone that’s healthy from contributing. And it’s not like Cabrera’s at bats are anything impressive anymore. But hey, if you like watching out of shape has beens fail on the field but smile pretty in the dugout for the camera, enjoy yourself.
  7. I’m not much for retiring numbers. But it needs to be reserved for only a select few. Whitaker deserved it for the Tigers. As for the Pistons, Vinnie Johnson and Dennis Rodman? Really? That seems excessive, but it probably has more to do with Gores trying to make a statement as an owner than anything else. I don’t know all of Russell’s exploits off of the court, but it sounds like he hand somewhat of a hand in the progression of civil rights. So, with that context, if it’s significant enough (and I guess shame on me for speaking without knowledge), than I understand it. But if they were going to do it, why wait until his passing? Seems shortsighted.
  8. Guyana scares me. Too close to the edge of the earth. I would hate to fall off.
  9. Miggy is not still Miggy. You just said you haven’t been paying attention, so I guess you wouldn’t realize how awful he is now.
  10. Cabrera is unavailable to play. So how can anyone watch him play? And how riveting is it watching him plod towards 1B on another futile ground out? Stop listening to Shep and ignore the shots of the hit and home run totals on the Ballys broadcast. What exactly does he bring to the team from a competitive standpoint anymore? Pay him his money, let him sit in the dugout and make cute faces for the camera, but remove him from the active roster. He’s an absolute joke as a baseball player anymore.
  11. Then put him on the IL if he isn’t going to be available. How difficult of a concept is that?
  12. It’s got to be a percentage that is well worse than normal.
  13. Why not put him on the IL if he isn’t healthy and then use that roster spot for an actual able bodied baseball player? That seems somewhat logical for a baseball team, does it not? (Disclaimer— The definition of baseball player is subjective with this organization.)
  14. So he will be gone soon?
  15. Yes, I guess I should have kept reading the thread and agreed with you.
  16. Consistency. I wonder how much of this is mental now. He’s likely not struggled on the diamond before like this. Maybe this is his Jordan cut from JV moment?
  17. So there’s still a chance that the Tigers cash in on that David Price trade.
  18. Not always.
  19. I’m still not sure how St. AJ let it come to this after last season, but maybe that’s just me.
  20. Cabrera out again today? Waste of a roster space at this point. Is Al asleep at the wheel still?
  21. I hope the new GM is nicknamed "Doc" and has experience with a flux capacitor.
  22. Nice area.
  23. This is all that matters. I'm not concerned with whether that person is currently inside the organization or not. I don't think there should be an attachment to any particular player that makes them unavailable in trade if it makes the organization better. I don't think there's a quick turnaround likely that we would see a .500 team in a season or two, but then we weren't going to see that if Avila stuck around anyway. Ideally I'd like a carbon copy of the St. Louis track record of the past 20 some years. Its been talked about before. But if you have not looked at their year by year success, it is certainly worth a glance. They've not always made the playoffs, but they've been at least competitive year in and year out. Aside from the record, I think the divisions that the Tigers and Cardinals play in are pretty similar enough that using the Cardinals as the barometer makes sense. As far as the timing is concerned, I think we'd all like to see the new person hired in time to get things moving before the offseason. I have no idea how quickly things can get turned around as far as a complete overhaul is concerned. That will probably take some time. But if they can at least get set a bit for free agency and go from there, that'd at least give the fans a bit of a small victory. And there are plenty of position holes to fill, probably 3B and OF at the top of the list. If I were a long tenured member of the front office (including scouting/development departments), I'd have an empty box ready for my personal belongings.
  24. It'll be interesting to see how he turns out.
