  1. We’re celebrating Wenceel and you’re dropping asterisks. Can we interest you in a hug?
  2. Never heard of Ordegon. Ever drive on nuh-VAY-duh Street?
  3. Well, and in fairness maybe that ball falls in anyway.
  4. Flaherty going through a lot of pitches in the 5th and 6th. Guerrero Jr homers. And now the Flaherty pitch count ends.
  5. Oh boy, the sketchy defense returns.
  6. I don’t know why it triple posts like that.
  7. There’s also a Nevada (Street) that is pronounced differently than the state.
  8. Well, I was right about the pronunciation, but the road I took to get there was a big lie. I feel shame.
  9. Oh, yes, you’re right, I’m wrong. I didn’t realize he went to Genoa, I always thought he went to Clay. Genoa is a smaller system than Clay, and Clay Twp is certainly smaller than Oregon. Thanks for correcting me.
  10. Oregon, Ohio is pronounced differently than the Oregon the state. Oregon here has the syllables drawn out a bit longer and the “gon” sounds like a lot like the word “gone”.
  11. Dig it. You Canha do this more often, please.
  12. One of the announcers declared Chris Bassett is from the tiny town of Clay, Ohio. Clay is the school system of Oregon, Ohio, which is a decent sized suburb of Toledo. Geographical knowledge you didn’t know you needed to get you through this game. You’re welcome.
  13. I’m not sure I agree with the target date being that far down the line. I think they were simply taking best player available. If you are in fact correct about the timeline theory, that’s an awful decision. They can improve the farm system via draft while at the same time improving big league roster. We can allow multitasking. The Tigers obviously have some roster spots that could use improvement, and it might not take too much to improve those spots. And despite those issues, they’re still around .500 on the season. As for Skubal, it’s pretty easy, really. It’s going to require a boatload of talent, and if it’s not there, don’t trade him. Build up the team next season, improve upon this season. The salary situation isn’t onerous at all except for Baez.
  14. Yes, I listened to that last night. I enjoyed hearing his story and hope his parents can get a chance to see him play in person soon.
  15. Its not a tremendous failure if those 35 wins come in one month.
  16. My worthless guess is that when rosters expand from 26 to 28, they'll take a pitcher and a position player. I would think a Kelly trade makes a Dingler promotion all but certain. That's a one for one swap. But if they don't move one of Kelly/Rogers, I'm not sure I see them rostering a 3rd catcher. I'm not sure I consider Carpenter a young player that needs to be seen in terms of performance. He probably still has a little bit of growth yet, but I think he's a MLB player. Meadows definitely needs some MLB time. Well, his bat does. The glove plays, no worries there. If both do return this season, the roster decision could be interesting. Do they dump someone like McKinstry/Urshela, demote one of Villade/Malloy? Probably too early to tell. On the pitching side.... yikes. Jobe is the next fun thing, but does he earn a late season promotion? Or do they just pull up someone already on the 40 (which, meh).
  17. Well, you're no fun.
  18. I don't know. I'm not young but I'm not that not young.
  19. Its actually Diet Dr Pepper. Can you imagine if it were the regular octane Dr Pepper?
  20. Will this factor into the pitcher's defensive range metrics?
  21. I suspect your sarcasm just might become reality.
  22. I can only add to this by saying that I bike ride a rails-to-trails where a section of it is shared with horses and there are signs that explicitly give them the right of way for the 100 yards or so of shared trail bounded by wooden fencing. And by right of way, I mean you also make sure you avoid what isn't blacktop.
  23. I had heard it last occurred in the '30s. The Yankees won the WS in 1938 and hosted the ASG in 1939. There were a few seasons ('59-'62) that had two ASGs, one at an AL location and the other at an NL location. Most of those had the first in early July with the second in late July or early August. It was probably just a revenue play. I don't know if they used the same rosters for both games or not.
  24. One thing we don't know about is whether or not the Tigers and Skubal have entertained extension talks and how those have gone. The tenor of those talks could dictate the decision. I hedge on keeping him and making things work for a playoff run while he's here. How can they get to 90 wins and into the tournament. Shouldn't be that difficult with some of the pieces that they have and only one albatross of a contract on the books.
