  1. There’s not much of anything to promote from Toledo into the Detroit rotation. Heck, same could be said about the bullpen. The Mud Hens have used 36 different players on the mound this season. And granted, that includes a position player or two (Drew Maggie’s name stuck out, didn’t scan through the others). But still, 36 pitchers. 36! That seems nutty.
  2. This one stinks. His emergence after arriving to the organization has been fun. His quiet demeanor compared to Skubal’s fiery mound presence is a bit of a wrinkle, too. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and it’s just a short term issue. I think a rotation beginning with those two and Mize is a pretty good start. Montero could work his way in there, too. Get another SP project for Fetter/Nieves to work with. Jobe lurking and Gipson-Long recovering in Toledo. They’ll need to find some younger AAAA arms with possibility yet to stuff in Toledo. As we’ve seen recently, there’s not ever enough pitching.
  3. That’s kind of mesmerizing.
  4. Actually, I wonder if part of Madris over Baddoo is Madris’ ability to play 1B?
  5. I think they mentioned yesterday that the Tigers have a week straight of RH SP on the docket. It’s not surprising to see Vilade down for a LH bat, but for Madris rather than Baddoo just kind of cements Baddoo’s lack of future with Detroit. Easton Lucas up for the Cleveland series? The Guardians offense seems LHB heavy. Pitch well, stick around. Don’t and he’s swapped out for another pitcher for the Minnesota series, probably with an eye on a multiple inning pitcher?
  6. Might as well sweep the series.
  7. And Andy Ibanez. Harris hasn’t been perfect. But no GM has been perfect over the last two seasons.
  8. Depends on the deal.
  9. Well, he played 3B today. I’m generally non bunt, but I think trying it early today would have been fine.
  10. Randy Wolf turns his ringer volume up.
  11. BYOB. Bring your own broom.
  12. I’ll do it.
  13. Looks like all are free today.
  14. Huh. 13 years of Catholic school. I never knew the bill or rights was in the bible. Learn something new false every day, I guess.
  15. Every once in a while I'll see a snapshot of the Exhibition Stadium stands around the infield and I'm stunned that there was no roof or overhang there. It seems so primitive. And then the nothingness but empty football field beyond the right field wall. That was distinctive to me from when I started watching. I don't think I remember any stadium setup like that. I know that's what the Dodgers had in the Colosseum when they moved out there. But I think every other baseball/football stadium in the 70s/80s/90s had the retractable stands pushed in to make the baseball dimensions work.
  16. Maybe he's just tired and needs a game off?
  17. Might as well win the series.
  18. I prefer the game is called correctly. The AAA ball/strike challenge system has limited pitches to challenge. I think it is 3 per game, but I'm not sure if there are caveat's to that (ie, retained challenge). I am pretty sure it is penalty free. If the call is challenged and upheld, play moves along. And from what I have seen, its a quick process. Pat the top of your head to challenge, the pitch is reviewed, the determination is broadcast on the scoreboard, and we move along. Honestly, the time it takes for that to happen is quite short compared to the challenges already in place in MLB. Maybe its as long as a pre pitch clock batter getting out of the box to scratch himself, adjust his batting gloves, knock dirt out of his cleats, and get back into the box.
  19. Since when has the truth mattered?
  20. Miller seems a mystery to me. Pretty decent peripherals, but when the batter makes contact, someone gets a souvenir.
  21. We went to a game a couple of years ago. Seats were uppest deck behind the plate. I remember walking to get up there and it was nothing but concrete in the corridor. I think even the handrail and lights were made of concrete. It was just a stale feeling. I'm sure it was just victim of the era when it was built. A few years later, Oriole Park was built and there was brand new thinking to baseball play pens. Those corridors would be more open now with views of the city and/or field.
  22. He is a bit on the seasoned side. Maybe he's just a AAAA type of announcer?
