Hey you fans of The Crown, have you seen The Windsors? It's awesome.

He's a completely forgotten figure now, but here in Hamilton those who were old enough to remember him always viewed Mountbatten with contempt, an incompetent upper class twit. That's because of the Dieppe raid which was a complete fiasco and of the 900 Canadians who were killed about 170 were from the local Hamilton regiment.

I just went and looked at Sheffield again, he's better than I thought he was. He hit those 509 homers without ever striking out 100 times in a season, never even close. His age 25 and 26 seasons were injury-shortened - add the two together and he hit 43 home runs in 535 AB's. And then his age 27 year was ludicrous, 142 walks against 66 K's, with 42 home runs. And in the 3 years ages 34 to 36 he finished 3rd, 2nd, and 8th in MVP voting. Very impressive.

I haven't heard any of Neil Young's stuff about GMO's. My objection is that you can't save some of your seeds to plant next year's crop, which we have been doing for about 10,000 years. Those seeds belong to Monsanto, you have to buy seed from them every year. Not that some farmers weren't already doing this anyway before GMO, if you are growing some sort of hybrid crop you were probably already buying seed from a big seed company every year. But that was a choice that the individual farmer could make. With Monsanto there is no choice, and if they detect some of their GMO DNA in your crop they will sue you. So, yields are higher but there is a new layer of debt every spring that has been added to the business model of agriculture in India among other places.

There are a lot of analogies to the English royal family that you can make to the generation of idiot Kennedys who were born to famous parents.

If Biden were 20 years younger I would say that he did that on purpose.

Careful now, you know what happened to Andy Dufresne when he called the warden "obtuse".

Stock prices plummeted at an alarming rate this morning, because of the shocking weakness of the economy under Joe Biden's mismanagement. In afternoon trading, the strong economy left in place by Donald Trump caused stock prices to post positive results for the day.

Since when did Trump get rid of NAFTA? NAFTA 2.0 is 99% the same as the original. Still has a dispute resolution mechanism, still has protected dairy markets - those were Trump's 2 hot issues and he caved on both of them, as usual. There are some conditions associated with Mexican auto manufacturing now (a Canadian demand). People who think NAFTA 2.0 is a new deal have no idea what was in the original.

Hey if I want to wear high heels and a bow tie and beat off to green M&M's, like Carlson, that's my business and not yours.

That's funny. Jimmy Kimmel put up a photo of him recently, with a creepy little smile, and said "shown here watching a 5-year-old getting into a stranger's van."

Wow that's a relief. Because I really give a shit what the Pope thinks about stuff, and I know that everyone else in the world does too.

Actuarial tables are like that, they can calculate your life expectancy to 5 decimal places, more than that if you want. The 5th decimal place is about 30 minutes I think.

My wife is an RC, I'm not, so back in those days you were supposed to "take instruction" and "convert" which was really insulting and I didn't do it. The wedding went ahead anyway.

LOL well at least he was a minister, he might possibly have had some actual family experience himself. The one that always makes me laugh is a Roman Catholic priest giving advice about marriage and parenting.

This is the interesting part, to me. Biden talks about a coordinated approach to sanctions, among the allies of Ukraine. But I don't think that he has the juice to deliver it. What sort of painful sacrifice is he asking American citizens to make, in order to support sanctions against Russia? Not a single one that I can think of. But he thinks that the EU will just suddenly stop buying Russian gas and suffer hardships themselves? He's not anywhere close to having that kind of influence, not after all the years of tariffs and trade nonsense and threats to leave NATO since 2016...and now especially not in France. And I think that that is exactly the calculation that Putin has made. "I can walk into Ukraine, again, and there's not a thing that the Americans can do about it, again. Half of them don't even want to." The Chinese will be interested observers. I think that the EU has come to the realization that there will never be US military intervention against Russia, and that going forward they will develop their own strategy for dealing with Russia, independent of the US. Macron said exactly that.

There was a picture of Jesus at our house when I was a kid, he looked sort of like a young Errol Flynn. So, that ought to settle the argument I think.
