  1. The guys on the pitching staff in Toledo are pretty awful. I've tried to learn their names but I forget them almost immediately.
  2. 30 pitch inning for Eduardo.
  3. Not every team obsesses about defensive versatility or L/R matchups. The Braves for example roll out the same 8 guys, plus a catcher, every night. That's the objective...find good players. And then stop trying to prove how clever you are in lineup construction.
  4. You should'of been more careful.
  5. How many hours did he stare into a mirror, rehearsing that pose?
  6. A combined 1-hitter, with only an unearned run.
  7. Manning is perfect through 2 innings on 25 pitches.
  8. Dave called him a fat tub of goo.
  9. Without going back and looking at my own posts, I don't think I was too bothered one way or the other. Keep him, sure, let him go, fine. Harris didn't think he was worth $7 million though, and obviously Hinch didn't either (notice how nobody ever calls out Hinch on this one?). For those who wanted to keep him, part of the rationale was that he was an asset that we could "flip at the deadline" and strengthen the organization, which proved to be 100% false - flip him, sure, but only for the pathetic garbage that the Nationals got. I think we might have finally learned that nobody wants a rental hitter at the deadline, unless you will accept Dawel Lugo in return. So retaining Schoop for example, hoping to rehab him enough to "flip him at the deadline", was a hopelessly flawed tactic and they should have just cut him loose during the winter. From now on if we are deciding to keep a hitter I don't think that "flip him at the deadline" should be part of the rationale.
  10. Public execution, with an acceptable bit of collateral damage.
  11. Malloy's OBP is .423. Make him the regular DH in Detroit next year, maybe try to hide him in left field in road games once a week.
  12. Yes, it isn't as bad as it was at the start of the year, but it is still bad. He only stopped doing it to Carpenter about a month ago.
  13. When is Holton getting his statue at Comerica?
  14. Ibanez trying to get noticed.
  15. He's selling protection.
  16. Trading Torkelson reminds me of how clever the Twins were by playing a glove man, Minky, at first base and getting rid of David Ortiz.
  17. I don't think I want 5 years of Yu Darvish unless someone really outstanding is coming along with him. Remember when he was the love child of Sandy Koufax and Pedro Martinez? Although, $15 million a year for a starter does not break the bank, so maybe you'd think about it.
  18. We have 3 bats that we like, Greene, Torkelson, and Carpenter. Those are every day players. We would like to add 3 more, Meadows, Malloy and Keith. I feel good about them, especially Malloy the RHB who puts up a .400 OBP and a .45O SLG no matter which level of the minors he plays at. And Baddoo is trying to sneak into the conversation again. So that is 7 bats we could optimistically hope for, but they can't all play at once because 5 of them are OF/DH. So that's only 6 spots filled, with a bat on the bench. Keith plays third. Baez plays short, and somebody catches. That is 8 spots. What is left over? 2B. Wenceel is the only guy who is even close, I know that the evaluators don't like him, but get him up here for the whole month of September. If he doesn't cut it, that is your offseason target, second base, by trade or FA.
  19. McKinstry has fallen off a cliff. At the end of May he had an OPS of .832, led the team with 10 steals, and was a capable, versatile defender. Maybe the best player on the team. And since May 31, his OPS numbers for June, July and August are .485, .610, and .530 and he's getting plenty of playing time. And he's 29 next year. At the start of the year I said to myself "I like Vierling and McKinstry better than Willi and Harold" because those were the roles I saw for them. I still think that Vierling will survive, he's a RH who can play third or the outfield but he isn't going to start at either. As for McKinstry he could stick around but only because he is LH at this point, and you can't carry both him and Maton.
  20. Donny you are way out of your element.
  21. It makes you think back fondly to the NHL standings in the 1960s.
  22. Still one of the all time great quotes in the old forum, someone said that Dean Green could hurt you with his glove, even at DH.
  23. I am imagining The Penguin beating you with a yardstick.
  24. Of course he immediately makes a bad play...but then hits a home run.
