You meant the first half of the first game of the season methinks... -

Need 5 innings still, they've never changed that rule so... Gotta wait a little bit... -
We already had this conversation, I think maybe even earlier in this thread... I forget if you were a part of that convo but I'm thinking you were... It's exactly as you've stated it. It's in this thread because... a comparison was made between Afghanistan and Ukraine, by myself. Both involve a failure of US Intelligence to evaluate the "mood" of the population... per your comparison, the same as what happened in Vietnam. US Intelligence is consistently NOT evaluating mood: South Vietnamese = hated their President as a corrupt elite not interested in their welfare/ perfectly open to North Vietnamese leadership and, also, the overriding desire to expel ALL foreign forces, no matter the cost; North Vietnamese = a desire to expel ALL foreign forces, no matter the cost; Afghanistan = corrupt government, corrupt military, corrupt belief in themselves as a nation, a population with no actual desire to fight against the Taliban; Ukraine = complete misunderstanding of Ukrainian rage against Russia, going back at least as far as the Holodomor, and even previous to that their declaration of Independence in 1917 that was stamped out by the nascent Soviet Union in 1921, but also including the 2014 invasion... The Ukrainians were going to fight tooth & nail against any Russian invasion. Did US Intelligence understand that?

If you have about 4,000 of them that's worth around $4. You could get yourself a slice of pizza and a Coke with that. -

I get YES (Yankees) Network on my cable (for local NY/NJ area...), So I've been watching most of the Yankees/ Tigers games the last two weeks (home and away series). But I don't think YES will be common or national... I turn the volume way down so I don't have to listen to the Yankees broadcasters... they're not bad, and talk a bit on the Tigers but it's mostly Yankees talk so the volume stays low. One funny moment was when Manning took the ball off his heel (not funny for us) they kept saying he took one off his ass. For about 10 minutes until they figured it out. It clearly hit his foot. They just really had a fetish for Manning's backside? -
He is an Agent of Russia. Providing aide to the enemy... Which means...

Russia ain't the Wehrmacht nor are they the Japanese Imperial Army... Not by a LONG shot...

I would go: 1. Gibbs (I wanna see how explosive he can be) 2. Campbell (like tater says... can we ACTUALLY cover TE's now... please?), I really wanna see what Campbell can do at our 2nd level of D which has been piss-poor especially in pass-coverage for a long time... 3. LaPorta (seemed to be a favorite of Goff's in training camp so 10 catches for 110 yards and 2 TD's please. What? Kelce who?) 4. Branch -
Methinks the Russians got nothing left. I mean, that's overstating it... but, not by all that much IMO.
-
I was also for getting out mostly because the extensive corruption meant an unwinnable government. But Trump screwed it up, Intelligence screwed it up, the military screwed it up (based on the intelligence... remember when Biden ordered our forces out in February but his generals begged for more time? That lasted until... it didn't). But brainless/ dishonest Republicans wanna heap everything on Biden (of course they do) when he's the LAST guy on the list in this blame game... (Last guy out gets all the blame?)
-
They need to go as far into the winter as they can, as well... Russian logistics on Ukrainian territory is ****ed. That means their forces too...
-
Haha! So on that basis, we should put the blame on Trump because HE'S the one who authorized releasing 8,000 Taliban soldiers from prison the year prior. You know... one thing leads to another (great title/lyric in a Fixx song too...)!
-
That was not a method & process problem... That was entirely an intelligence failure. "We're good for a couple years as the Afghan forces can hold off the Taliban." "Oh wait, the Afghani forces melted into the wind and the Taliban forces have just taken Khabul... RUN!!!"

Sort of like JD Martinez...?

Hah!!! I meant it's time to add talent to this team so lets add more... It would take something extraordinary to go that far... I of course would not argue about another championship, although I do not believe that to be in the realm of realistic probabilities for 2024. The serendipity however, should such occur... would be off the charts!!! -

And he is NOT playing at his 2022 level, he's playing at his 2020-21 level... Which was the point you and I were making all winter long. Expecting ONLY a 2022 repeat performance was NOT a reasonable expectation. I think Lee wanted him back too, although I don't remember any specific performance expectations or what his reasoning was.... But you and I both expected a 1.5-ish WAR performance (you), or better (me: a I expected a recovery to near 2020-21 levels), and... LOOK!!! He has a 3.2 WAR this year!!! It simply was a better offseason decision (not counting money) to jettison Schoop (sunk cost) and free up 2B (easier position to fill than 3B) to be filled with youngsters trying to grab a starting position spot and to invest arbitration money ($7 mill or so...) in a competent 3B'man, who, if PUSHED out of his job by a youngster then fine, trade him at the deadline, even if the return isn't all that much. Which meant hold onto Candy and dump Schoop. Easy position swap. If not trade deadline, then hold onto him until FA and let him walk for a draft pick (would he have gotten us a draft pick? dunno...). But then again... you know... spilt milk... So c'est la vie...

I would say this: If Harris's development team can coax out major steps forward for Roberto Campos & Christian Santana and Josue Briceno (I'll add Dingler in here too, and maybe even Trei Cruz)... Then I am giving MAJOR props to both Avila for selecting those guys and Harris for developing those guys... IMO.
-
He also went for power a lot... With zero hit tool attached or MAJOR swing holes attached... Far too often.
