Just in case LLM is MIA... I could throw a Sunday afternoon special out there... (I think he missed Saturday's too...?): Toledo: Postponed due to rain. Erie Wins 12-5 Over Altoona (another team of ours with an offensive explosion and no interesting story on pitching): Workman 2-4, single-double-1 BB, .753 OPS Lee 2-4, singles - 1 BB, .756 OPS Trei Cruz 2-4, singles - 1 BB, .752 OPS WM Loses to Lake County 7-6 Gold 1-3, single-1 BB, .273 BA, .886 OPS Campos 1-3, double-SF, .278 BA, .809 OPS Anderson 0-4, .693 OPS Joe Miller - 4 Inn's, 3 H's 1 BB 1 ER 4 K's, 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP Lakeland Wins 4-0 over Palm Beach McGonigle 1-2, single-2 BB's, .329 BA, .881 OPS Rayner Castillo - 5 inn's, 3 H's 1 BB 0 ER 2 K's, 0.00 ERA 1st & only game in Lakeland so far.

Until it isn't. And then all hell breaks loose...

I think these guys read my post in here... And got QUITE... IRKED. And have decided to show me up this weekend. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. PS: Good for you guys.

Campos stakes WM to a 1-0 lead with a solo HR...
-
That's what I remember too.
-
Eddys Leonard on his rehab down in Lakeland was one of those singles...
-
That IS quite the comical take...
-
Most definitely... Yes.
-
I think the same thing could be had by throwing him into the 9th spot. Nothing to do there but get on base. But also... he's right in front of the top of the order... which would actually be an incentive to get on base.

I sort of ignored this part... But I went to go look at some numbers just because I wanted to see the comparisons. Since Dingler has only been a minor leaguer I should start there. But before I start on the numbers a few thoughts I had on him: 1) I thought I remembered in his draft profile that he had a high hit tool and so I thought "Great, a possible .290-ish hitting catcher with some power! That would be great!" He quickly dispelled me of that notion as he struggled a few years in Erie trying to get over .240. His first Pro year, in Lakeland at .333 and .287 at WM, had me hopeful, even though he got some Erie time that same year and hit .202. His 2nd year was .238 at Erie and 3rd year was (2023) was .253. Now I'm thinking he's gonna be more Jake Rogers. 2) By 2022 I'm thinking Dingler will end up somewhere between Jake Rogers and Lance Parrish... and HOPING he ends up closer to Parrish than Rogers. He's sucking wind at Erie though and I'm thinking "Crap, he's gonna be more like Jake Rogers". Some #'s: Parrish: 6'3" 210#'s, RH'ed. Drafted out of HS. Wasn't a high average guy. And actually did better in the Majors than in the minors. Probably because he was drafted as a HS kid. Minors: 1,626 PA's, 56 HR's, .241 BA, .732 OPS. And he made the Tigers at age 21. Majors: 7,797 PA's, 324 HR's, .252 BA, .753 OPS. Also: Lifetime WAR of 39.5 and OPS+ of 106. Rogers: 6'1" 205#'s, RH'ed. Drafted - Tulane. Majors at 24. Minors: 1,392 PA's, 52 HR's, .242 BA, .779 OPS. (Pretty close to Parrish except he was older from start to finish). Majors: 726 PA's, 33 HR's, .204 BA, .673 OPS. Well that sucks. Dingler: 6'2" 210#'s, RH'ed. Drafted out of Ohio State. 25 & in Toledo right now. Minors: 1,317 PA's, 48 HR's, .248 BA, .773 OPS. Yeah... I'm hoping he's closer to Parrish than Rogers. Not by age... just by MLB performance...

Also... Parker has much greater range/ speed than Perez and probably (just guessing) would have called off Riley. I don't think Perez was in a spot to call him off. Positioning himself (Parker) for the better throw to 3rd.

This is correct.

I'm rusty as heck at Tables so I'm going to post this "dirty" and then see if I can clean it up correctly (position players of interest/ note, not everybody included). PPOS = primary position, there could still be other positions a player is playing but I gave a primary where it seemed appropriate. Vilade got a UT (utility) designation because he's played a few games at almost every single spot in the field. Excepting SS and catcher. PS: Vierling does NOT get demoted for Vilade. Torkelson gets demoted because he needs to straighten his **** out. And Vilade has played a few games at 1B (not many). So it's Tork that gets demoted for Vilade. That should piss Tork off and motivate him... right?
-
The reasons Vierling goes down versus a different move: As I said, it's not a punishment to him. It's simply a numbers crunch. If/when Meadows gets another chance: That's Canha, Carpenter, Greene, Meadows & Perez who can NOT play IF. That's a full deck in the OF and none of them go down to Toledo in favor of Vierling. That limits Vierling to... 3B? He's not great there. Adequate, but barely. You can't get rid of McKinstry because he's the ONLY SS on the roster outside of Baez. And he's a LH'er in the IF as well. Not any great advantage there.. but the Org is not going to dispense of McKinstry at this point in time, not in favor of Vierling. Not going to happen. And since Urshela and Ibanez are both RH'ers and play 3B... That makes Vierling virtually useless. The worst that can happen to Vierling though, if Meadows can stick in MLB... Is that Canha is a FA this year and Vierling has to wait until next year to be the 5th OF'er. It is what it is.
-
Since this is a transition year... to sift through some kids trying to see what sticks... I want to demote (all have an option or two so we don't lose these guys): Torkelson. Rogers. And Vierling (not as a punishment to Vierling... he just got caught in a numbers game and I'm not sending down Perez... Plus Ibanez can play both 2B and 3B so with Canha/ Carpenter/ Greene/ Perez/ and...): And call up: Meadows - give him another chance to stick in CF. But he needs to hit in Detroit... not just Toledo. That would be a full OF with 5 guys. Vilade - and stick him at 1B. 25 and I'm interested in seeing what he's got. I don't wanna say he could Wally Pipp Torkelson... But I would say that I don't want to see Tork in Detroit again until: He's got his bat straightened out. And his head straightened out. And to me that means getting himself in top shape because... I don't see it. And taking some F'ing pride on defense. Which means getting into better shape and learning how to actually be more than just a 1-dimensional 1B'man (he can pick it with those errant throws... I don't see much else than that). Oh... and maybe Vilade could surprise everyone. And Dingler. He's at .284 BA and .810 OPS at Toledo... But I won't project anything here. All I would say is it would be hard to be much worse than what Rogers has provided so far so might as well give Dingler a shot while Rogers straightens himself out in Toledo. Which he needs to do. And if Dingler somehow sticks... Rogers is a FA only after 2026 and Kelly is a FA this year... So keep Rogers whether he's a starter or a backup (but he's gotta play better than what he's shown this year) and Dingler shows Hinch what he can... or cannot... do. And Harris adjusts accordingly. Just my 2 cents.
-
In a small sample size (about 54 PA's)... Parker Meadows is hot down in Toledo with a .302 BA and 1.004 OPS (so far). Maybe he's trying to tell Harris & Hinch "I'm sorry. Can I please come back up and play in Detroit?"
-
If you start out hot... There's usually nowhere to go except... down. The key to me, with regards to Wenceel, is... Where does he end up stabilizing? Which might take a long time to find out.
-
Junkballers can still be effective. I think one of the keys to me is... can he rub off on Mize? Whether that's by osmosis or by showing him different grips or how to be more effective with a subpar FB... If Mize could learn something from Maeda... Improve through his tutelage into a 3/4 starter that can carry a 1.15 WHIP - with the FB that he has - IMO... then that buys Maeda a seat at the table.

I should state this correctly: AVILA GEM KERRY CARPENTER with a 2-RUN HR!!!
