  1. A month into the season and the Central is not as weak as expected. It’s not all due to everyone beating up on the White Sox.
  2. Bruins were one shot away from advancing but Woll made a big stop early in OT and, lo and behold, John Tavares went hard to the net at the other end and that resulted in a goal. Will need to put my celebration on hold.
  3. I'm a Tork supporter for the most part but he needs to be sent down for a stint.
  4. “You know when it comes to racism, people say: " I don't care if they're black, white, purple or green"… Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people! - Unless they're suffocating - then help'em.” — Mitch Hedberg,
  5. Reminds me of a story about this elderly neighbour I had who was from Hawaii but living in Canada. I asked him on Canadian election day whether he was eligible to vote. He replied, "yes, I'm bi". His wife nudged him and said "you're dual, Ed, you're dual, not bi".
  6. What’s the Tigers’ record number of strikeouts in a game? Edit: as of 2023, it was Anibal Sanchez with 17. He did it in 8 innings. Broke Lolich’s record of 16.
  7. I think the Wings would have lost in 5. Most teams don't get swept.
  8. Tampa eliminated. I think their run of excellence is over. Two straight 1st round exits. I can definitely see them missing the playoffs next season. Stamkos gone? Had quite a run. In past 10 years, 6 conference finals including 4 SCF and 2 Stanley Cups?
  9. This is one of my very favourite non-Wings hockey calls ever. "Big shine, on the big mug" "And now a 24th Stanley Cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous Forum in Montreal... the Canadiens win the Stanley Cup!"
  10. Story in the Vancouver paper about Manu getting picked. https://vancouversun.com/sports/football/nfl/detroit-lions-ubc-thunderbirds-offensive-tackle-giovanni-manu-nfl-draft/wcm/9db0e8c4-f9f2-4e86-a025-2a9ba8a122f5 It was a hyped up Detroit Lions head coach who helped break the news to UBC Thunderbirds left tackle Giovanni Manu that he was Detroit’s fourth-round pick in Saturday’s NFL Draft. “I received the phone call and heard Dan Campbell yelling: ‘Are you ready to be a Lion?’ and the rest was history,” Manu, 23, explained via text message on Saturday. “The phone call is something I’ll never forget. I’ll forever remember this moment. It is life changing.” Manu sees similarities between Campbell and Nill (note: the UBC coach). “They are the exact same in terms of football mentality and the way they approach the game of football — both love old-school football, which preaches hard, consistent work,” Manu relayed. “Both are from blue collar family backgrounds and I fit right into that type of mindset and approach to football.” Nill buys into that connection, too, saying that Manu “will be able to thrive in Coach Campbell’s culture, because that’s our culture.”
  11. I'll have to defer to Sloth and others. It's no false modesty of mine to say that I probably know less about draft prospects than any regular contributor to the Red Wings section. Exception is if a player plays for WHL's Vancouver Giants or AHL's Abbotsford, or is a Western Canadian gaining "exceptional" status.
  12. All that hubbub for weeks about who will make the playoffs, only for Washington to get swept away and NYI be on life support at 3-1.
  13. Imagine holding Edmonton’s powerful offense to 13 shots like LA did tonight, but still losing 1-0. No 2-2 series. One sweep, six are 3-1, Vegas up 2-1.
  14. lol, I actually know this guy!
  15. I worry about the offense if the Wing lose both Ghost and Kane. Sign Ghost, let Kane walk, sign another goal scorer. Any 30 year old out there who is coming off an injury or somewhat down year who would sign a 1 or 2 year deal to prove himself?
  16. He was beautiful to watch. In Canada, one of Coffey's best-known plays starts at the 1:10 mark of this clip with this intercepted pass and skate back up the ice that flips the rink and leads to the overtime winning goal against the Soviets 30 seconds later. 12 years later, in a World Cup semi vs Sweden, around the 50s mark of this clip he goes from his own goal line to the opposing blue line, leading to the OT winning goal.
  17. So I think we can relax about 3 spots in the order - Greene, Carpenter, Canha. Now need to figure out how many of the other six spots are serviceable.
  18. To be honest, I don’t know. Any other team but Vegas and it may have not raise eyebrows. But given the Knights’ track record, seems suss
  19. Probably Sawchuk. With decent gaps within each of the top 4. Howe-gap-Lidstrom-gap-Yzerman-gap - Sawchuk.
  20. Maybe the NHL could subsidize the WNHL (Winnipeg's NHL team) the way NBA does for the WNBA. 🤪
  21. Home teams 6-0 in the playoffs so far. Caps lost rather meekly to the Rangers yesterday.
  22. Very surprised they got the team back. Think they’ve done fine since their return. No margin for error though. Not a lot of corporate money in Winnipeg. Not a big population base. However, average Winnipegger has more disposable income than average Vancouverite or average Canadian. Still, they’re maybe a 5 cent Canadian currency drop away from being in deep doo doo.
  23. Tigers win. Road record 8-3. Home record 4-7.
