  1. The one thing that the faithful have hung their hats on is that the Wings since hitting bottom in 2019-2020 (39 pts in 71 games, for an 82-game pace of 45 pts) have scored incremental improvements since then, starting with 70 pts pace in 2020-2021 (48 pts in 56 games) . But what happens if they end up with a points total in the 70s this season, which could very well happen? The lack of "build" in the re-build would be even more evident than it is today
  2. 2G 1A from Tarasenko, one of the few offseason adds, doesn't help.
  3. Looks good on Annie Agar. Lost a bet to her Lions fan brother. https://x.com/AnnieAgar/status/1854564536537206835
  4. It's the day before Veterans' Day. We're still pissed.
  5. Hard to think of a reason to get excited about watching right now.
  6. Goals against average, out of 51 qualifying goalies in the league. Unless one thinks Talbot and Lyon are both NHL top-10 goalies, no reason to think the Wings are even as good as their mediocre record.
  7. 3-0 Rangers late in the 2nd. Looking like a lost weekend for the Wings. A loss will put them at 6-7-1, a record that finally will reflect how they’ve been playing. Even that might be flattering.
  8. That delayed timeout call is a fireable offense, part 576
  9. Wings trail 2-1 starting the 3rd but sounds like they’re playing one of their better games? I haven’t been able to watch so am just going off a bit of Ken & Paul and a few texts from my uncle.
  10. 15 years ago, Vancouver’s CFL team needed a temporary place to play for 2 seasons while the roof of our domed stadium was being improved and the stadium renovated. Used a recreational football field in the east end of the city that had a seating capacity of 0. Parents would just stand along fences or the sidelines watching their youth play. So 27,000 seats of bleachers (some chairs, some long flat benches) were erected in 3 months for only $15mm. Then removed a couple of years later. Below is what the site looked before and after (upper pic) and during (lower pic).
  11. By my count, only 3 teams have scored fewer goals this season so far than the Wings' 33: NYI (32), Nashville (31), Anaheim (25). Haven't factored in Games Played, so might be a bit better on a goals per game basis. On the other hand, surprised that in the Eastern Conference only Carolina, Washington and NYR have given up fewer goals than the Wings' 36.
  12. Our old pal Petr Mrazek just made a couple of big saves with the Wings up 3-1. Eight minutes to go.
  13. Larkin takes the lead back for the Wings. 2-1 Wings late in the 2nd
  14. Your post got me curious about how Jakub Vrana is doing these days. Actually surprised he is still in the league, although looks to be marginally.
  15. Rich Eisen starting at the 48s mark: "I've never said this before. I don't think I've said this in my entire life. I don't know how many people in their lives in the great state of Michigan have said this. But the Detroit Lions are the best team in the National Football League.. the Lions aren't just beating up on people, they're putting them in the fetal position. They are exactly what Dan Campbell set out for the Lions to be".
  16. I don't like kicks into the end zone being placed at the 30 yard line. Between that and kickers' longer ranges these days, you really only need about 20-25 yards to get into the fringe of FG range of some kickers. Even if you're left with time for only one or two plays before a FG attempt, you have a shot now.
  17. I wish we could push a button and have it be mid-January right now. The way the Lions are playing right now, and with no other teams really stepping up in the same way and with the Lions being quite healthy except for Hutch, the Lions would be heavy favorites to win 2 home games and advance to their first Super Bowl, where they’d likely be favored in that as well. I’m just worried about some bad break in the next 2 months, lol. I just wanna get on with it!
  18. I think 27 seconds with 3 KC timeouts is right on the border of where I’d go for it. Hence the tv crew’s criticism of Tampa’s decision to call a quick timeout when they got a 1st down at the one. One advantage of being tied is that the offense will be more conservative than if they were trailing by one. For example, if they were down by 1 KC would have gone for it on 4th and 1 and likely made it instead of punting it away with 15 seconds to go. That’s less of a risk if you kick off when up 1 with only 20 seconds to go and only 1 timeout.
  19. Tampa takes KC to overtime, starting now. KC to receive.
  20. Signs from yesterday's New York City Marathon.
  21. Ha, Colts and Vikings exchange INTs on back to back plays.
  22. Vikings’ last 3 possessions of the 1st half were: - Darnold sacked, Colts pick up fumble and take it 40 yards for TD - Miss 51 yd FG - Miss 31 yd FG
  23. Stafford just threw a 40 game-winning TD pass is overtime.
